SRR Ra`KalenChapter Sixty: tr`Nerik's Loss
[Kalen]

tr'Nerik slowly, almost caressingly, moves his fingers off the viewer monitor and his hand back beside him. A tear falls silently from his left eye and he sits nearly exhausted of life.

He stands up and slowly walks over to a shelf encaved into a wall. He picks up a 2d holophoto and ceremonially glides over it with his fingers.

"Oh why...."

Suddenly an alert from his monitor breaks the silence, almost shriekingly. tr'Nerik sets down the photo and walks over, hitting a button on the viewer. A prerecorded image of Raith appears on the screen with his spoken words in text along the bottom.

"Arrain, I would like to have a report. Simply as it is, a standard duty and position appraisal one," he says with a slight glimmer of joy. This irritated tr'Nerik subtly but he waved it off. "Also your fellow Arrain, tr'Idran is fitting in perfectly, I hope to see you two working together or at least cooperatively to enhance the valuability of a political and naval advisor. That is all." Raith nods and the image blanks away.

tr'Nerik nods silently to himself sadly.

"Computer begin personal log:

Stardate 239906.17, today I have just received some... unfortunate news. My mother passed away two days ago working at the underwater aquatics lab in the Abenik sea. A compression wave accidentally created hit the lab and most of the staff were... drowned. I haven't spoken to my father or sisters yet but no doubt they will be in-- the same kind of mood. Hopefully though I will be able to speak to them again when we near a more readily available comm station. As for my ongoing with the rekkhai, it seems we've hit an impasse and relations have suddenly, almost unexpectedly turned bright again. Of course this already happened but lately it seems he's getting more and more eager to work with me--become a good friend. That may be true and I respect it but at this incident I may be pulling out of highly active service for a while...

End log and file away."
