SRR Ra`KalenChapter One Hundred-Forty-Eight:
tr`Ragarok's Next Project
[SNR-Ts`Irk: Raith's quarters]

To say that tr'Ragarok was detached from reality would be like saying that suns are hot. So he had ignored a mutiny, a momentous return, and any number of other events. He hadn't even noticed that some of the crew started to treat him better, while some treated him worse. He also ignored the comments by the science staff that he had been duped into aiding the mutiny. No, the only major event he had really noticed was his movement to another ship that lacked his lab. Plus, he had to bunk with three others. tr'Ragarok hadn't been allowed to bunk with other people since a minor incident in college involving an electron disruptor and a tribble... the last time he bunked with anyone was when tr'Riam came aboard, and that didn't last long. But now, tr'Ragarok was sharing a room with several others. And Donal couldn't help himself... the com officer had expressed minor ignorance in upper level quantum superstring theory, in order to make conversation.

Big Mistake.

From that point on, whenever they were in the room together, tr'Elq heard all about quantum theory. And temporal theory. And entropic theory. And anything else that crossed the science officer's disjointed mind. This lead to his temporary roommates not wanting to be on the same deck as him, let alone in the room with him.

[Temporary Living Quarters]

Tr'Ragarok was alone. Not just because his roommates were finding a million other things to do, but because he didn't have his experiments there. Nor did he have his science lab. Nor did he have his specialized materials for inventing. Thus he needed something to do... maybe the Chief of Science on the Ts'Irk needed help with an experiment!

[Ts'Irk Corridor]

Tr'Ragarok was already walking down the corridor when he remembered that the last time he tried to help he was thrown out by security and told never to come back unless specifically ordered to. So tr'Ragarok was left with a quandry... which fortunately was interrupted by the door closest to him opening up. Nerik strolled out, looking troubled, and walked on by without noticing Donal. The science officer peeked around the corner to see where he had come out from, and within he saw Raith sitting at a small desk. Raith looked up from his drink and the peering science officer.

"Ah, tr'Ragarok, just the science officer I wanted to see." Raith said cooly, not showing any surprise whatsoever. Donal walked into the room and sat down.

"Really? Do you have something for me to do? I've been ever so bored lately. As I was telling tr'Elq, my quantum resol..." Raith cut the eager scientist off with a glance.

"As a matter of fact, I do have a project for you. You see, we only have a limited number of troops, and we are undertaking a very large mission. What I need from you is a way to get past the planetary defenses, and also a way to get the ship away quickly." tr'Ragarok's face perked up immensely... a challenge! A problem to solve! His mind began to run through the many, many different options. He stood up.

"I'll need access to the science department on this vessel."

"I already informed security that you had permission to utilize it."

Tr'Ragarok cracked his knuckles. "Call a senior staff meeting in one hour, I'll have a full proposal ready by then." Before waiting for an answer, tr'Ragarok stood up and ran out of the door and towards the science department.
