[Turbolift]
Ever since that Paradox alarm had gone off, it had been one meeting after
another for Ry. He was getting to know yhfi`etrehh-rhi rather
well. TL 5 seemed to be the one he always stepped into lately. It was even
the lift he had gotten stuck in with Emni. And now, with all the running
around he had to do, TL 5 had pretty much become 'his' lift. He was
seriously thinking of painting his name across the door.
First, he had gone down to Engineering to check on the Temporal cloaking
system and the engines...make sure everything was running smoothly. Then
back to Sciences -- using good-ol' TL 5 -- to pester the division heads to
see what else they may have come up with. He knew that the Science Officers
were going to need more time to figure out exactly what had happened with
the Empresses' Time Weapon if they were to have a more thorough answer then
the one he could supply - 'because it obviously failed'. But the
Morrhae'Vnu was getting closer to it's target, and they needed this
information yesterday, so Rylan had peroidically popped into the different
labs unannounced to keep them on their toes.
Then, once again, it was back to TL 5 to go back down to engineering as he
had gotten a call from one of the Erien-a.
[Engineering]
Stepping out of 'his' lift, he paused to look around the room for the Erien
who had summonded him. Finding the Erien at one of the consoles, he headed
over. "Au had something to show me, Erien?"
"Ie." she nodded, pointing at the console in front of her, "It's the cloak,
rekkhai."
"What about the cloak?" he asks, moving closer so he can study the pannel
she had been working at.
"The Temporal cloak is flucuating, rekkhai." Erien t`Byrle explained, "Io
moment it's running at optimal, the next...well...it's not so much a drop in
power, as a shift."
"A 'shift'?" Ry's brow rose as he turned his eyes to look at her. "And when
did all this start? Na io mentioned a shift when I was in here this
morning."
She nodded, calling up the information on the screen of the pannel to
illustrate her point, "Ie, well, it just started. It's done this three
times within the last half-hour. The cloak tries to turn off, rekkhai.
It...*shifts*." then clarified hurridly at Rylan's worried look, "It shuts
off for a second, then comes right back on. But there's na telling if it
*will* come back on until it does so." she shrugged again, "I'd say it was
due to the fact that it's not used to running for such a long time,
but...um..."
"Um?" Ry's brow went up once more, "Um's are never good, Erien." he
informed her seriously with a shake of his head. "How's the engine holding
up?" he turned, then headed for the core's pannel to look it over.
"That's just it, rekkhai." she nodded, following him. She paused a moment,
allowing him to study the core's pannel before adding, "The engine's have
been running at optimal levels. *All* the time! We've been running at
maximum for a good 32.7 hours now. I believe that's part of the problem
with the Temporal cloak. The engines may be draining too much power off the
cloak itself. We need to divert some power to help keep the cloak running
at optimal."
Smiling, Rylan nods, "Na a problem then. I believe Erien tr`Stol is at the
Ops station on the Oria. Just call up ninte request to him."
"That's just it, rekkhai." she repeated, nodding. Once again she turned to
follow him as Rylan headed back to the turbolift. "I've sent in a request
to tr`Stol in each instance. Since then, he's been diverting power left and
right. I would like to prevent such a shift from occurring, but there isn't
much he can possibly divert from." she shakes her head a bit worridly, "Na
without shutting down the science departments power. I told him he'll just
have to divert power from some of their more un-necessary experiments to
prevent any further shifts, and he tells me that the sciences division are
all currently occupied with researching information that has to do with our
current mission. He can't shut them down."
Ry smirks at that. "Let me get this straight...." he holds up a hand and
tries to keep from laughing at the poor Erein, "Au requested that he shut
down the power to all...'unnecessary experiments' within the
sci-departments....on a *scientific* vessel?" At the girl's somber nod of
agreement, Ry couldn't help it, and he finally laughed. Having had to room
with DT for his time spent on the academy, Ry obviously had a little more
insight into the viewpoints held on the ship then she did. "Erien...the
saehne-a on this ship will all tell au, that there are *na* such things as
unnecessary experiments." Leaning against the side of the wall, near 'his'
turbolift, Ry patiently tries to explain. "Ie, au are correct; the
sci-departments are currently working on gathering information. That's the
main reason that I don't want to shut them down. As for any other projects
they have going on the side...." he pauses to silently remind himself that
the Leih has his own lab, and would probably be less then thrilled to find
all his experiments laid to waste. Ry shakes his head and admits to the
engineering Erien, "Well....I rather na shut those down either." he stops to
give the doors of TL 5 a contemplative look.
"Well...what can we do then, rekkhai?" the Erien questions in a note of
fustraition, "If we keep running the engines at maximum, the cloak is lible
to keep shifting. And the next time it does, it might na come back on!"
"Ie...ie...I am aware of that, Erien." Ry nods, then taps open a channel to
tr`Stol, "Erien? What have au diverted from already?"
"Right now rekkhai?" tr`Stol's voice came back over the line, "I figured
that since we were running the cloak we wouldn't need our shields right
now...so mostly that and weapons, since we are also na using them right at
the moment. We're also supposed to be maintaining silence, so I've shut
down most of the communications, except of course for in-ship com, and a
little power to open a channel to contact the Hydra briefly, if the need
arose. But na io will be sending communiques to their family anytime soon.
After that, I've diverted what I could...some things are operating less then
efficiently, but they're still functioning."
"Cut the power to all replicators within the departments and in any crew
quarters. Leave power only to the replicators in the messhall." Rylan
paused to reconsider, then added, "Leave the replictor in the Leih's room
and briefing room alone as well."
"Ie rekkhai..." came tr`Stol's answer, followed by the sounds of his consol
beeping and chirping as he did as requested.
"Next, I want au to turn off the power to the turbolifts...." he glanced
rather forlornly to TL 5, then added in a grumble, "We'll have to use the
tunnels for the time being. Also, make sure the holodecks are all shut
down. We don't need to run them right now; every io has too much work to do
to be wasting time by playing games at the moment anyway." He paused to
consider it a moment, then nodded and went ahead with his next order, "Shut
down the power to the bar completely. Give the workers some warning so that
they can go to their quarters. After they've had a few minutes, check for
lifesigns in the bar first to make sure it's clear. When it is, shut it
down."
"Ie rekkhai..." tr`Stol's reply came back.
"Fine." Ry nodded, then looked at the engineering Erien. "Erien t`Byrle
here, is going to keep a real close eye on the Temporal cloak for us." he
smiled at her, "If it starts to 'shift' as she calls it, then we'll have na
choice but to reduce some power to the science labs. We'll try to take a
little from each lab at the same time. Maybe by doing it that way, we won't
inadvertantly destroy an experiment. But that's only if the Temporal Cloak
keeps shifting. Both clear on that?" When both Erien-a answered - one
through the com - with an 'ie rekkhai', Rylan nodded and headed towards io
of the maitenence tubes, "All right then, make sure au let ninte
shift-replacements know what's going on." he shut off the com to tr`Stol,
then opened the entrance to the tube and climbed in.
[Maitenance Tunnel]
Once he had gotten to one of the ladders that he needed to climb, he tapped
open his line to Katara. "Rylan?" her confused voice came back as he
started the climb. "I just got a message that they're going to cut off all
the power to the bar! They can't do that! My quarters are here! Were am I
supposed to go until they turn it back on?"
"Au can stay in my quarters till the power's returned. It's only until the
ship reaches it's destination, then the power will be restored." he
explained calmly, still steadily traveling up the ladder.
"Ie? Ninte quarters?" she paused on her side of the com. When next she
spoke, Rylan could almost see the sly little smile, "Why do I get the
feeling that au planned that somehow?"
Grinning himself, he answered back with a laugh, "What if I did?" Still
climbing, he shook his head, "Na....it's the fvadt cloak. It needed more
power and the bar was a convienient target. Au'rh na likely to get many
customers today anyway....they're all too busy. Just hurry and gather
whatever it is au need, and get out of the bar so the saehne-a can do their
jobs." he paused on the ladder a moment to get his bearings on where he
was. "Just wait outside my door. It'll take me a few minutes, but I'll be
there to unlock the door for au."
