SRR Morrahe`VnuChapter One Hundred - Sixty-Five:
Tweaking the Antique
[SRR Wildstrike, Engineering]

The warp core lies in the center of the room where normally an Artificial Quantum Singularity would be housed. The ship's hull has been fairly repaired (including the Oira's roof) but the ship is no where close to being fully repaired.

Tacrun tr'Hunrok stands in engineering, scratching his head as he looks over the warp core. "Where to begin..." he muses.

Rhagarokk enters Engineering and heads right to Tacrun, "So, how are things going?" he asks the Engineer.

Tacrun turns to the Leih and salutes. "Progresses rather well, rekkhai." he replies.

Rhagarokk looks up at the warp core and asks, "Do au think it'll work? We're attaching a very old warp core to a ship built centuries in the future."

Tacrun grins and rubs his hands together. "If any-io can get it working, it's me, rekkhai." he says confidently, "This antique will probably run the ship better than usual."

Rhagarokk grins. "Au know, I hadn't thought of that. As a historian and an engineer, au'rh probably the most capable of doing this"

Tacrun can't help but laugh. "My dual professions come in handy for once."

The Leih smiles again. "Ie," he pauses, then changes tone, "So are au familiar with the 'Slingshot' maneuver?"

The engineer thinks for a second before answering. "That's where we use the gravity of a planet to add velocity to our ship, right?"

Rhagarokk cocks his head for a second, figuring out what he's saying. "Actually, that's the OTHER Slingshot maneuver," the Leih grins, "The io that's more likely to be in history. The modern version is where we use the gravity of a sufficiently massive star to hold the ship," Rhagarokk gestures with his hands as demonstration, "as we enter into warp." Pausing slightly to let it sink in, Rhagarokk goes on with his explanation, "Because we curve around the sun while at warp speeds, some interesting relativistic effects happen... and, with proper trajectories and calculations, boom, we've traveled in time."

"Ah," says Tacrun, clapping his hands together, "I see now."

"For that, though," Rhagarokk goes on, "we need warp capability and we need for the ship to hold together."

"I think the ship can hold together," boasts Tacrun, "It's na quite all together yet, but it should be fine by the time we attempt that."

Rhagarokk nods. "How long do au see it taking?"

"I think," Tacrun says and then pauses, "Only a few days at the most."

"Let's see if we can cut that down a bit," says Rhagarokk while rolling up his sleeves, "Shall we? Rylan's moving the crew back into the Wildstrike, so au've got my full assistance."

"OK," says Tacrun grinning, "let's see what we can accomplish, rekkhai."

With that, the two go off to work on the ship, getting started on the Herculean task.
