SRR Morrahe`VnuChapter One Hundred - Sixteen:
The Game's Afoot
[240103.05 Ancient ch`Rihan...]

After meeting up with the Security detail, Gehan tr`Tahn made a b-line out of the ship at a fast clip, while Ry and DT parted company at the hull breach. DT, who had his curiosity peaked by the mystery of the body, turned back towards Engineering intent on examining the remains for more clues as to what had happened; while Rylan steps out of the hull breach, heading back to Erien tr`Ahan's last known location to check on the distraught boy.

tr`Anrex, having seen what had happened in the back room of engineering, reports to the Daise`Dehno through the ip, "Sorry to disturb ninte sleep, rekkhai, but...." he turns away from the scene, and speaks in a quietly urgent tone, "we have a situation here..."

Outside the ship, Vyynd shuffles a bit on his perch in the middle of the villager encampment and answers back through the ip, "Ie? Sleep comes lightly on these nights....what need au?"

"There's been a murder, rekkhai...on the Morrhae`Vnu." tr`Anrex reports, "We're in the back room of engineering, looking at the body now..." he pauses to see the Daise`Hiifvehi`Saehne walk back into the room.

Vyynd looks at the ground of ancient ch`Rihan below his feet a moment, then looks up at the gapping presence of the ship, it's bulk making an almost ominous cast over the encampments of both the villagers and the sleeping crew members. "Assessment?" he asks quietly through the ip.

tr`Anrex pauses a moment before answering the rekkhai, casting a glance to nervous looking tr`Beck beside him, "Assessment is, that he's dead, rekkhai." tr`Anrex shrugs, watching D`Tarik pace back and forth before the body as if trying to figure something out, "Whoever did this...um...well, isn't all right in the head, rekkhai. You have to *see* the body to know what I mean."

Vyynd sighs as he jumps down from his perch, "Engineering?" he asks, starting off towards the ship. The village around him is still eerily silent as Vyynd glides through.

"Ie, rekkhai..." tr`Anrex's voice comes back through the ip, "We're in the back room off engineering. The office, if au will..."

[In another part of the camp...]

Now approaching where he'd left tr`Ahan, Rylan sees the boy has apparently recovered as he's gone. "Okay..." he whispers quietly to himself, more out of a need to dispel his own feelings of the creeps then out of anything else, "Let's hope he doesn't panic any io else then." Finding the playing cards still on the ground where he and Tahn had left them, Rylan picks them up and heads over to the shelter he had last seen Katara at.

Entering into the shelter, trying to be quiet as he steps over the forms of the sleeping crew members so as not to disturb them, Rylan finally spots Katara slumbering peacefully, unaware of what had happened in the ship. Glancing around at the other sleeping people inside the shelter, Rylan kneels down, intent on staying nearby the sleeping girl, to watch over her in the darkness of the night. He had just gotten himself into a comfortable position when he hears a whispering sweep towards him {{.....watch over the village.....}} that seems to swish by in a soft, soothingly creepy voice.

Jerking his head up, Rylan looks over the silent people within the shelter, and notices none of them moving much beyond what people normally do when sound asleep. Getting back to his feet again, he quietly heads for the door. Pausing a moment before stepping outside, Rylan scans through the darkness around him, but didn't spy anyone awake nearby the shelter. Turning his head towards where he had left Katara, he debated a moment longer. He didn't want to leave her, but she was surrounded by other officers who'd be able to protect her in his absence. The villagers were alone, and didn't have access to the advanced weapons that the Morrhae`Vnu crew did.

Sighing, his mind mostly made up, Rylan heads towards the villager's encampment with a slight, begrudging mumble, "Okay...first flashbacks...now voices." he shakes his head, "Definitely na a good sign...." and begins to think about taking the Khensia sessions a little more seriously.

After silently walking through the villager's part of the camp, and feeling more than a little creeped out, Rylan finally finds a good spot to sit down in and watch over them. As he looks over the sleeping forms of the villagers, Rylan wonders briefly if he should wake the Leih and tell him what's happened. After a moment to reflect on that thought, he shrugs and looks to the cards in his hands. Figuring that security would have more information about it in the morning so it would be best to let the Leih sleep till then, Rylan deals out a round of solitaire to help pass away the quiet hours of the night.

[In the Engineering section of the Morrhae`Vnu...]

Vyynd slides passed DT as he steps into the back room of engineering, "...wonderful..." he mutters, spying the spectacle. He pauses to watch D`Tarik stop his pacing, and walk back over to the body to examine it more closely.

Now that the Doctor had dissipated his own shock, he was more professional about the situation, and set about finding out the little details of the gory scene in front of him. Details like what the tongue was cut out with, which of Erien tr`Ehger's wounds had finally delivered death, with how much force the poor boy had been impaled on the pole.

Vyynd watches the smaller officer with a half-amused expression. "Let me guess..." he says tiredly, as he kneels down a little inside the doorway, rubbing a hand over his face, "He died from the giant pipe through the chest?"

"Vynnd..." DT says absently, still examining the body, "Have a little respect. And na," he continues, "I don't think so. He was still alive when he was on this pole...look at how the wound is kinda torn up." he points to the hole in the boy's chest, "He was struggling." he paused a moment, then pointed to the whip mark across the Erien's throat, "Actually, I think this killed him. That probably made it almost impossible to breath. And if au will notice where the pipe is coming out, " DT continued as if speaking to a first year medical student, "I'm guessing he was carefully placed on here to make sure he would be alive for...'the whipping' he got."

"Ie," Vyynd replies with the same tired voice, "but without the pole, I'm sure he'd be a *bit* happier, na?" he looks around the room as he runs through lines and paragraphs of procedure in his head, grumbling quietly to himself. After a moment, he looks back to the medical daise, "D`Tarik....rekkhai....could au hnadra leave us for a few moments?"

"Exactly 42 strikes with the whip." D`Tarik still continues as if not hearing Vyynd. "Seems like the killer kept going even after the poor guy was dead..." Poor tr`Beck, who had looked ill to begin with, pales considerably with DT's analysis of the situation surrounding the Erien's death, and turns away. D`Tarik turns to looks at the Daise`Dehno as the officer's request finally caught up to his brain, "And why is that?" D`Tarik asked defensively, "I'm na done with my examination."

"We need to conduct a sweep of the room...and the more au touch the body, the harder it gets for us. Please?" he stood up and put on a pair of black gloves as he waited for D`Tarik to comply.

D`Tarik glances at the body again, then informs tr`Khaine, "I will want the body in medlab, or maybe outside as power is mostly off. But okay, once au are done, I want the body for an autopsy."

"Understood." Vyynd nods, "Hann`yyu, rekkhai. I think he can wait a bit for the examination." he smiles a bit, stepping further into the room, walking in a weird pattern and looking at everything at once. "And next time...D`Tarik, please wear gloves?"

D`Tarik bows to tr`Khaine, "Okay. Au respect what I have to do, now I respect what au have to do about this...mess." he quietly states, walking out of the room.

tr`Anrex, who's been waiting patiently from orders from his department head, looks to Vyynd and says quietly, "Maybe we can get power on in medlab, rekkhai? I mean, dragging that...the body out into the public...?" he trails off.

"Ie," Vyynd states to DT's retreating figure, "at least some io respects what I have to do...." he sighs and looks up at tr`Beck and tr`Anrex

tr`Anrex pauses a moment at Vyynd's last statement. Looking a little unsure of himself he shrugs and says in a little quiet voice, "What'd I do?"

Looking down at the boys in front of him, Vyynd suddenly asks "Either of au have ninte forensics equipment on au?" he looks out into the main of engineering and relays the same question to the other three officers waiting there.

tr`Anrex nods as he reaches into a pocket to pull out a small kit, "Ie, rekkhai. I brought io when I heard the RS tell us to come in here." Beside him, tr`Beck still stands there in overall shock, and remains quiet.

"Good show." Vyynd nods to the boy in approval, "Let's search the room then." he looks back to the stunned boy, "tr`Beck?" then notices out of the corner of his eye that two of the officers in the main of engineering had nodded to his previous question and stand with their kits held out to him as if awaiting inspection. "Au two," Vyynd motions to them, "In here..." Vyynd pulls out his own kit and begins scanning the room. As tr`Anrex and the other two pull on their own gloves and set about the task of sweeping the room for evidence, Vyynd suddenly looks over to the still silent and too-pale boy that watched the goings on with an expression of shock. "tr`Beck!" he said to get the boy's attention.

Poor tr`Beck jumped a foot, "Ie??" and forgot to address the superior officer as 'rekkhai'. Vyynd hesitates a moment to assess the boy with wild eyes, focusing and unfocusing...moving about the boy's person and visage frantically. "Ninte equipment?" Vyynd asks in a gentler tone, "Au care to join us here, or check the rest of engineering?" he thinks about his own words a moment, then calls out to the officer still standing in the main, "Could au begin a basic scan of all of engineering...check -everything-?"

"Ie rekkhai." tr`Doylt bows his head slightly as he takes out a scanner to being combing over the main.

As Vyynd's eyes settle back on the wild-eyed boy, tr`Beck says quietly apologetic, "I didn't bring a kit, rekkhai. I didn't think to." he hangs his head a bit, "Perhaps I should help out in the main engineering section?"

"Ie..." Vyynd takes a moment to brush his hair back from his eyes, and actually smiles at the boy. "Nah matter, au are still quite helpful. Check everything au can in main engineering. Hann`yyu."

Smiling a little gratefully, tr`Beck bows his head as he heads out to the main, "Ie, rekkhai..."

Vyynd begins a full sweep and scan of the room, running off problems outloud, "Well...we have several tracks..." he states, and tr`Anrex immediately turns on the recording feature of his own isd to take down the notes. The boy goes about taking a holographic imaging sweep of the crime scene as the isd records Vyynd's statements, "Seems like 6 or so, 5 military issue boots...1 normal pair of shoes..." Vyynd notes, "We have several sets of prints on the...body. All...D`Tarik's." he pauses a moment to scan said prints, "All, it seems, more recent then the murder. When cross-referenced with the tracks and fiber placement..." Vyynd pauses to hunch over and search through networking files and records on his isd. "And na io we know of was in here two hours ago....except him. Or at least, na-io that was reported...."

tr`Doylt comes to the door of the back room, "Rekkhai...I found something on the computer records out here...on io of the consoles."

Vyynd snaps back to the room around him, "Ie? Good..." he steps out and walks over to the console the Erien pointed towards, "What've au found?"

tr`Doylt explains as he follows the senior officer, "Seems someone ran a hypothermic sonic expulsion wave. The back room, main engineering, all the corridors and access tunnels have been flooded with it...over two and a half hours ago." he pauses to look at the Daise. "Whoever did it, set it to run at a delayed time. Probably so the killer could make his way out of the ship before the emissions wave cleaned up the evidence."

"What a bastard..." Vyynd glances over the readings of the console, then looks over his shoulder at the room in general before looking back to tr`Doylt once more.

"Whoever murdered the Erien back there, cleaned up proper afterwards." tr`Doylt nods at the daise's assessment of the culprit.

"Ie, they knew their hanev...." Vyynd snaps back to all his officers, "I want this room quarantined. Only authorized personnel access. And, um...some io help me get that body into a....body bag...for the medical daise. And someone inform the Leih and RS....move!" he barks out.

"Um..rekkhai?" tr`Anrex asks confused, "What about the repair crews? They were going to work on engineering tomorrow...."

Vyynd sighs, looking to the officer with slightly angry eyes. "Do they need to work in the *office*? Or just the main room?"

tr`Anrex shies away and answers quietly, "Main engineering, rekkhai. Sorry..."

Vyynd scolds himself mentally, "Sorry. We have a death on our hands...na io unauthorized in that room. And I'll report to the Leih." he heads out, but turns back quickly, "Hann`yyu everyone...keep up the good work, jolan`tru." he begins to step out.

But tr`Beck stopped him with, "I have a question...how are we going to get the body off the pole without damaging it too badly for the autopsy D`Tarik mentioned?" the pale boy asked.

Vyynd smacks himself in the forehead and looks back to the security detail in the room. "Sorry...ummm..." he pauses to think about that particular puzzle.

tr`Anrex, who had just been chastised earlier, looks to the others before meekly offering, "Um...guess we can kinda...slide it off the pole somehow..." he shudders then adds, "Wish we could just beam the darn thing to medbay..."

"Ie!" Vyynd pats Anrex on the shoulder, "We'll have it transported to medbay. Only a brief usage of power...good thinking!"

Surprised at this, tr`Anrex smiled, "Hann`yyo..."

"All of au, good work..." Vyynd nodded to his officers, "Okay, transport the body to medbay for the medical daise....seal off the room....find anything else au can...and I'll report to the Leih." he paused a moment to look at the faces before him, "Everyone clear on what they have to do?" He looks around them once more then slowly tries to make his way out of the room. Finally heading out, he goes off in search of the commanding officers....
