SRR AylhrChapter Thirty: Preparing to Face the Music
[SRR Aylhr, Oira]

Thuryn sat quietly on the oira, his station directly adjacent to the empty seat of his leih. On the console before him he watched the readings of the sensor lock on the Leih and the wort Jarok. He should be down there watching over young Conn'hae i'Caernu tr`Rok, his son-in-law and leih. He grinned as he watched a third green blip several hundred metres from the first two over seeing everything they did.

One of his Dev (team of ten)crack Dheno and special ops saehne-a followed the leih everywhere even against orders. He tapped on the console and the third signal vanished as the ships first officer arrived beside him. "All is well rekkhai," Thuryn reported, not waiting for an information request. The younger rihan looked at him and turned sharply away ignoring the obvious insolence of the old man.

[Quarters, several hours later]

t`Fahl stood before tr`Rok - "...and after meeting with t`Lhoell he returned to the spaceport and collected the young Erein who is to join paectum." Her report was concise and efficient. tr`Rok nodded and smiled, " Take a duty shift to relax, au have earned it. I will enter it as a study period assigned by me." The young woman saluted and left his quarters. The elder statesman of the Rok family sat back and wondered what task lay ahead. Conn`hae was no mans fool and tr`Rok observed him building one of the strongest and most efficient crews in the Republic. Soon the Dev and this quixotic old rihan would earn their place onboard, in the green light of spilt blood and death... he could smell it as he had many times before.

[Oira, several minutes later ]

Thuryn entered and nodded in acknowledgement to the Leih as he entered moving silently to his station. He looked over the back of the new Gonaii`Saehne and tried to assess what kind of person she was. No doubt he would find out fast enough. As he passed the Ifevlhr ststion he looked Jarok straight in the eye. Report? Although they held the same rank, as Hhdael`Ifevlhr`Saehne tr`Rok senior had the authority to know everything that the leih wanted to know about current strategic and mission parameters. He waited making tr`Randuiel gather the information for him.......

[Leih's Quarters, SRR Aylhr]

Dais'erie'Riov Conn'Hae i'Caernu tr'Rok slipped on the silvered chain mail of his Dress Uniform. The Sagomh-a he had received for his part in the War with the Lloann'na were placed on his formal sash once it had been slung on, the symbol of the silver spear thrice appearing for his part in the battles of Krakken, Yadalla and Hama. He wrapped the cord of the Khellrea v'Mnhei'sahe Sagomh around his right shoulder, letting the silver tipped rope hang down from the attachment at his collar. The symbol of the Honour Guard proved to him at least that he was no coward, whatever others may believe.

Finally he strapped his black scabbarded Kaleh to his sword belt, the old Kalen given to him by Sarahl, his Ailhun (Wife) took it's rightful place on the left opposite the larger blade. It had belonged to her Brother, killed in a skirmish with the Kll'inghann-a sometime before the Rihannsu took them to task and defended their borders from the incursion which had resulted in the Battle of Koahht Hama.

The Leih stared at himself in the full length mirror. A true Saehne of the Galae, his Mnhei'Sahe was his life, as it should be to all Rihann'su. He'd grown up on ships of the Fleet, following his parents around from ship to ship, no other family available to see to his schooling. Now his Di'ranov (Father) was erie'Orrha of the Phi'lasasam on Devorren under Vaek'Riov Maxillius tr`Galleron. His mother retiring from active duty to be there with him, their bond of jol (Love) had remained unbroken through almost a century.

His thoughts turned to Sarahl. How would his actions affect her career as a Saehne. He knew that the Tal'Shiar Agent aboard the Vrelnec'Ahui was a typically suspicious man, if others agreed with the thoughts of the poisonous Arrain tr'Randuiel then there was ending he could foresee in this but disaster for all concerned with him. Perhaps the ritual suicide that was his right under Rihann'su law to invoke would be the best way out of this entire mess.

Deciding that whilst there was still a fight left in him he would not take that final step, Conn'Hae adjusted the chainmail of his uniform, straightening it out for a move comfy fit and turned to leave the room. The journey to Coriel must almost be over, he had received word that they had dropped out of warp and were moving at impulse power to make orbit around the planet. Once there he would be separated from those loyal to him, to stand alone against the most powerful man currently in the Sector and face his Aehallh-a.

[Oria, SRR Aylhr]

The Leih sat silently in his Throne, his blades racked neatly in his Office, ready to be placed back on when he was ordered to beam down at the Ael'Riov's bidding. EnArrain t'Vrin gave the orders, leaving the Leih to his quiet mediation. Everyone had stepped carefully around the Dais'erie'Riov since his arrival on the Oira in full Dress Uniform, everyone now realising the seriousness of the situation.

He had thought he saw a smirk on the face of tr'Randuiel, but this was swiftly masked as Conn'Hae's look advised caution. He wondered how many others the unpopular Arrain may have turned against him with his views. Whether any would have listened to the words he could have spread and how many he could count on for loyalty.

Only about a dozen people would be definites if their loyalties were questioned. Apart from his v-Di'ranov and Hru'Hfirh, Arrain tr'Rok and the 'Dev', erie'Riov t'Lhoell was the only member of the crew he felt that he could fully trust, and he had only recently been reintroduced to her. How knew her true loyalties and the 'secret duties' she carried out whilst serving with the Forth Fleet.

As he thought about her t'Lhoell spoke, "Rekkhai, we have achieved orbit around Coriel VII."

He sighed slightly as he continued to stare at the viewscreen, "Erien t'Charon, hail Galae'Tho Ohrie. Advise them to contact the office of Ael'Riov

tr'Ojadanus and inform him of the Aylhr's arrival." He did not wait for a response before turning to t'Vrin, "Au have the Oira, EnArrain." he ordered before heading for his Ready Room.

He looked at no one as he headed for the Turbolift. t'Charon motioned a Dheno'Saehne to follow the Leih. Ullhan tr'Rondra came into step a pace behind him.

"Transporter Room Io." said Conn'Hae. He felt the pull as the lift sped towards it's destination. Kholairlh-a deleth arhva (Elements Protect Me), he thought as he went to face the consequences of his actions.

[Oria, SRR Aylhr]

tr`Rok watched as his faelirh (son) stepped from the lift in his full dress uniform . This was not normal and the older Rihan felt the hackles on his neck rise. For the first time since they served together and Conn'hae had joined his family as his daughter's husband, he did not know the younger man's thoughts or his possible future danger. He did not like this and turned his head slightly to catch the eye of Ullhan tr`Ronda, the second man in the Dev (team of ten). He gave a slight nod in the direction of the leih and tr`Ronda hhrau`vaed`rae (came to attention) in acknowledgement. Now all he needed was a set of beam down co-ordinates, the Rok family did not allow its members to face danger alone.

As EnArrain t`Vrin paced around the oira tr`Rok found time to wave the Daise`Dheno`Saehne, t`Charon to assume tr`Rok's post at Strat Ops. He allowed himself to come to attention as t`Vrin passed and he spoke, "Rekkhai reh will deliver the latest Hhdael report to the Leih as he ordered." In his hand an ISD its screen in dark mode to make it unreadable. He crossed to the ready room door where the young Leih had entered a few moments before.

[ several minutes later, Oira]

tr`Rok was back at his station, face set and unmoving. Even Jarok did look at him directly, and Jarok loved staring Thuryn down, or at least trying to. They had entered orbit at Coreil VII. tr`Ojadanus waited for the young Leih, this Thuryn now knew. What his Leih did not know was that the old man had already planned the next steps in the action.
