Ikathakarnaka'alal
"Collector of the Dead"
Karnak, Darkslayer, Nightsun, the Sword of Lathander
Ikathakarnaka'alal translates as "Collector of the Dead" in the language of the ancient tribes of the Anauroch. It is unknown why Lord Kalamar Rowanmantle chose to name what is likely his greatest work in this obscure language. Known variously as Karnak, Darkslayer, Nightsun, and the Sword of Lathander, this greatsword is wrought of black iron and adamantium. The blade is almost completely covered with runes chased in red gold and mithril, giving the runes an unusual and shifting shine. Skulls and unknown symbols are intermingled with runes etched in the obscure, ancient alphabet of the Anauroch. The decipherable runes speak of light, the end of darkness, exaction and retribution for evil acts, the imminent, inevitable glorious dawn, and the like.
On September 19, Lord Rowanmantle disappeared into his fastness of the Liontower, emerging six days later. His changed appearance astonished those who knew him. He looked as if he'd aged years during those six days, and staggered under the weight of the newly wrought sword. Without a word he handed it to his lieutenant Velanna, along with the Passagestone of the Liontower, and walked north, disappearing. There has been no word or sighting since, and magical investigation has revealed nothing. It is said that Lady Velanna, the Phoenix of Lathander, wept steaming tears as he left, as if she knew something others could not.
