At the general meeting, Mrs. Gernreich came for the presentation of her
planter. We presented it to her to honor her for years of service.
-
We reviewed last month's meeting minutes. Cary Catching needs to be added
to the list of attendees. Karen Jolly moved to approve the minutes as amended.
Motion passed.
-
Treasurer's Report: Karen Jolly
-
Balance $13,813.16
-
Lore Osaki-Horii moved to approve the budget. Motion passed.
-
1 bill to be paid: $95.43 for the staff appreciation brunch.
-
Cary Catching moved to pay the bills. Motion passed.
-
PTSA mini-grants:
-
Mr. Funk brought the Lincoln Foundation form for mini-grants as an example
we could use for the PTSA mini-grants. The front page has instructions.
There is one page for teachers and one for students. They haven't done
teacher grants recently. They have been doing "teacher of the year" awards.
Last year, they gave 3 $2500 awards.
-
We have $3000 set aside for mini-grants. There are 84 staff now.
-
There was discussion about whether we should offer the grants by departments
instead of individual teachers.
-
All requests don't necessarily have to be honored.
-
We can table a decision on this issue until spring.
-
PTSA Scholarship:
-
Cary Catching, Jan Finger, Sue Suttle, and Amanda Bush met on the PTSA
scholarship.
-
They have a proposed form. It requires filling in educational goals and
an essay on why the students feel they are deserving of the award. It requires
a letter of recommendation and a transcript.
-
A letter announcing the scholarship will be ready for the students by 2/1.
The application is due by 4/1. The selection committee will include 3 parents
of non-seniors, appointed by the PTSA president, Amanda Bush, and Cary
Catching. They need to decide by the May meeting. The winning students
will be notified after they enroll in a college. They will receive money
when they provide proof of enrollement.
-
We decided not to include military service as qualifying for scholarships.
-
The amount of the scholarship was not put on the form. $500 is budgeted,
but if we decide to give more than 2 scholarships, we can allocate more.
We decided to put the scholarship as "up to $250."
-
Joe needs help with holiday favors for Lincoln staff. We have $300 allocated
for it. Jan said she could help write notes to put with the candy.
Cary will pick up the candy from Sees Candy on San Carlos.
-
We need nominations for PTSA officers for next year.
-
Next meeting January 9, 2003.
