PTSA 5/9/02 Meeting Minutes

The general parent meeting started at 7:00.

News:

Mr. Funk talked about changes in the administration. Mr. Funk becomes principal.
Chris Heller becomes assistant principal for curriculum. Cary Catching
takes Barbara Lepiane's position. Mr. Phil Roark will be in charge of student
activities. Derrick Jackson, who has been the assistant principal for discipline
at Gunderson for a year, will come to Lincoln for the same position.

Mr. Funk said that there will 21 openings for teachers. They have received
50 resumes. They will start interviewing tomorrow. By Mid-May, they hope
to complete their staffing.

Senior recommendations will be written by Cary Catching, Amanda Bush, and
Phil Roark.

The prom is next Saturday. Tomorrow is the last day for bids. It will be
from 8-12 at the Pacific Athletic Club in Redwood Shores. We can always
use chaperones.

6/7 is the senior luau. It will be at the pool. It will be free if the
students have no deficiencies.
-
5/24 is the senior panorama picture.
-
Tryouts will be held fro the graduation speeches on 5/23-24. The speeches
will be ~2 minutes each.

6/12-14 will be minimum days, ending at 12:30. Monday 6/10 will be a normal
day.

Graduation will be held at the Rose Garden. The new sod has been in for
2 weeks.
-
Notices for the senior awards will be sent out about 2 weeks before graduation.
The awards will be given on 6/4 in the gym. The ceremony will last about
1 1/2 hours. 150 students will receive awards.

Golden State Exams will be held from 5/20-30. The students will take them
in their classes.
-
102 students will take the AP history exam, which is a record for the school.

The Student of the Month award ceremony will be held on 5/23.

The Teacher of the Year is Mr. Lou De La Rosa.
-
5/29 is orientation for incoming freshman athletes.
-
Physical exams for sports will be held on 6/1 from 8-3 at Lincoln for $20.
-
Free SAT preparation classes will be offered next year. It will be on 5
Saturdays.

The Mock Trial group is in Minnesota for the nationals.
-
The Robotics team went to Florida for the nationals. They did not win,
but they had fun. Mr. Gardner is the advisor. He will be coming back next
year. The Robotics team is an after-school club.

Ronald Horii reported on the Grad Night Committee:

Ticket sales have started. We have sold 19 tickets so far. 2 students won
prom tickets.

Volunteers are needed for chaperoning on Grad Night, picking up food at
the food donors and delivering it to the school on Grad Night, and loading
the buses for Grad Night at 9:30 pm.

Before the general meeting broke up, the following issues were voted on
by attending PTSA members:

The following checks were voted on by the members at the general meeting.
Dennis Fox made the motion to approve these checks. There were unanimously
approved:

$7000 for Grad Night, due May 30 to Camelot Park.

$40 for the PTA Council lunch.
-
$625 for Jalisco's for the staff luncheon.
-
$100 for Student of the Month expenses.
-
The audit report was unanimously approved.

The officers for next year were nominated. Jan Theiss-Guffey moved to approve
the nominees for officers. They were unanimously elected:

Judy Frazier moved to approve the minutes from last month's PTSA meeting.
They were unanimously approved.

The PTSA meeting was called to order by Kathy Allyn at ~7:40 pm.

Chris Funk, Barbara Lepiane, Dennis Fox, Joe Silveria, Carol Silveria,
Cary Catching, Lorraine Campbell, Karen Jolly, Terri Moffatt, Jan Theiss-Guffey.
(They were also at the general parent meeting.)

Karen Jolly presented the Treasurer's report. The balance is $6783.36.
Cary Catching moved to approve It was passed unanimously.

The PTSA gives scholarships for college expenses. The recipient must enroll
in college to receive it. A check issued to Griselda Cervantes on 6/15/01
has not been cashed. Cary Catching will contact the student to see if the
check will be used. Terri Moffatt moved to issue 2 $250 scholarships this
year, and 1 more if the scholarship from last year will not be used. The
motion was passed.

Cary Catching moved to approve $100 for staff luncheon expenses for items
not provided by Jalisco's. The motion was passed. The teachers luncheon
will be on June 13th at 11:30. Helpers are needed.

Terri Mofatt asked if she should use the money from the Grad Night eggroll
sales to pay for food and supplies for Grad Night. Karen Jolly advised
her that she should close out the eggroll sales and purchase the supplies
separately. The eggroll sales will be extended until June 6. Terri asked
about taking eggroll orders from teachers next year and delivering the
eggrolls to the teacher's lounge. Mrs. Gernreich said it was too much work.
The teachers can just go to the front of the line.

Terri Moffatt moved to have up to $300 approved for Grad Night food and
supply expenses. The motion passed.

Kathy Allyn turned in $1140 from the sale of 19 tickets to Grad Night.

A committee comprised of Chris Funk, Kathy Allyn, and Dennis Fox will meet
to decide on the appopriate gift for the departing administrators. Jan
Theiss-Guffey moved to set aside $100 for one of the gifts. The motion
passed.

The next meeting will be a potluck. It will be on June 10th. Jan Finger
said we could have it at her house in the Almaden Valley. Kathy Allyn will
talk to her. Nora Yongquist will contact PTSA members to announce it.

Dennis Fox moved to adjourn. It was passed unanimously.
