Kenny "Kansas" Nash only wanted to save his Dad, he never wanted to do anything more than that. His father invented something impossible, a handheld, simple black box with the power to change the world, if revealed to it. The powers that be tried to cover everything up, they only catalyzed their worst fears, and overnight the world was fundamentally changed. Science religion and philosophy now christened a new messiah, the man who revealed the box to them, not his father, the creator. The weight of the world squarely rested on Kansas' shoulders and he didn't want anything to do with it, so he ran away.
Using his father's technology and the endless resources the world threw at his feet he built Earth's first interstellar space probe, with room for only one passenger. Himself. Part of him hoped he wouldn't succeed, that something would go wrong and it did. He returns to a future where not even death can save him, a future of his own making.
