| ~Movie Review~ Ned Kelly. |
| STORYLINE: Well, of course, this movie is the story of Ned Kelly who happens to be played by Heath Ledger rather than Orlando Bloom. BUT, fortunately, Orlando is a CLOSE companion of Neds and happens to be an enormous charmer with the ladies, with the exterior of a rugged, unshaven, handsome brown-haired hunk of hotness. This knowledge does not go astray from viewers minds. The insight of his character, Joe Byrne, is shown clear. The movie begins with a significant part of Neds life, where he is accused of stealing a stallion and is sent to gaol for the first time. The significance and story of the Kelly family is told throughout the entertaining movie. CHARACTERS INCLUDE: Joe Byrne: Orlando Bloom Ned Kelly: Heath Ledger Dan Kelly: Laurence Kinlan Steve Hart: Philip Barantini Superintendent Hare: Geoffrey Rush Kate Kelly: Kerry Condon Mum Kelly: Kris McQuade Julia Cook: Naomi Watts Mrs Scott: Rachel Griffiths Fitzpatrick: Kiri Paramore Aaron Sheritt: Joel Edgerton Constable Lonigan: Peter Phelps FOCUS: Foremost, the storyline or plot or whatever you call it is fairly linear, and remains stuck on the story of Ned Kelly, and the happenings that occur after he is released from gaol. BRIEFS: A fictional love interest materialises along the way for Ned (Heath Ledger) who falls head over heels for Julia Cook (Naomi Watts). Even though she is married with 2 children, she falls as well. Nothing comes from the relationship, it is left hanging in midair when Ned, his brother Dan (Laurence Kinlan), his friend Joe (Orlando Bloom), and acquaintance Steve (Philip Barantini) flee to serve justice to Neds mother (Kris McQuade) who is in gaol, falsely accused. So Ned, Dan, Joe and Steve seek temporary refuge in the woods, only to discover that they are unjustly surrounded by a selection of the Victorian Police. By ambushing their camp, Ned is thrown off guard when Lonigan (Peter Phelps) fires his gun. Ned kills Lonigan. (Dont ask me how unless you absolutely have to, although it is pretty obvious HOW Lonigan was killed, but you dont know WHEREabouts). Not long after the gruesome murder, two more Victorian Police come to check up on the settled camp, only to be chased by Ned who is wielding his revolver. The two policemen die. This event begins a series of occurrences, especially the four of them being pronounced outlaws who can be killed on sight by anyone who chooses. It is then Superintendent Hare (Geoffrey Rush) is called to the attention of these manslaughters, and is sent to lead the Victorian Police in their duty to capture these newcomer outlaws. From here, the four journey by horse from village to village, leaving vengeance behind for the police to ponder over. A few good scenes I will mention are: 1. When they rob a bank, and Joe makes out with the bank managers wife (Rachel Griffiths) *shudder shudder* *wail* 2. When the police poison the water and they have to kill two horses so they can drink their blood 3. When they visit home and check up on Aaron (Joel Edgerton) and discover he is a traitor 4. At another bank, when Ned is dictating a very meaningful letter to Joe (apparently 56 pages long). Joe is a magnificent writer :D 5. When Joe kills Aaron (the poor darling hesitated- it was his BEST FRIEND!!! He needs a hug :( ) 6. The final shoot-out outside the pub: the four of them against about 200 policemen COMMENT: Now, being a fond fan of Orlando Bloom, I found this movie totally captivating. Not only did I squeal whenever he came on screen, but I found his character extremely cheeky and felt like Orlando was loving acting this role- Im sure it was lots of fun for him! And though I cried whenever he kissed someone, I understand that really, he did NOT want to, right? I mean, obviously, he only did it because he was paid to A film produced, based on the novel Our Sunshine, certainly DOES leave an impact on a captivated audience. No matter how much you are a fan of anything BUT history, through this film, not only will you learn about the famous Australian bushranger, but also you will be introduced to a whole new aspect of Victoria and the ways of that time. All in all, there is violence, sex appeal, humour, empathy, and romance. Be amazed at the astounding performances of the perfectly selected cast. Dont you dare blink during NED KELLY, or youll miss something!!! ONE WORD: Charming |
