The One & Only.
Legolas Greenleaf. The one and only. An amazingly skilled and sophisticated elf. Everyone's favourite. The love of my life.
Legolas Greenleaf is the representative of the elf race in Lord of the Rings. He comes from Mirkwood, where he is Prince, to help fight off a powerful force, known as The One Ring. A Ring that is as powerful as anyone or anything in Middle-Earth.
And still he comes. Still he comes with his bow, and arrow. A great master of skill and strategy. Perfect in every way, from the hair with no split ends ... down to the handsome uniform he wears proudly ... and his feet that swiftly and softly carry him where he yearns to go.

He emerges in The Fellowship of the Ring. The first installment of what is famously known as the trilogy. The first film transferred from Tolkien's astounding three-part novel series.
We catch our first glimpse at Elrond Council- where each race has a couple of representatives, unknown to the task of destroying this powerful ring. Legolas is first to stand up and defend his kind. He is first to defend Aragorn, as more than a "mere ranger". He is first to clarify that the ring has no other way of being destroyed- it has to be taken to Mordor.
Now, only a brave, level-headed elf dude would say that! And he's my Legolas. The one and only.
And, so, his character evolves further as he takes the responsibility of his race, and leaves with The Fellowship on a journey that will change them all.

Now, elves are amazing creatures. They often speak their own language, Elvish. And he does it beautifully. They have soft steps (no-one should hear them) and their eyes see beyond what anyone else can see.
They are trained and artistic in firing arrows, and they are skillful warriors. Long, blonde, plaited hair falls down their backs. Not a feminine characteristic ... is those days, anyway. Blue/Brown eyes startle anyone, as they are bright and eager. Elves do not openly reveal all they are feeling. They usually suffer quietly, and keep to themselves.
An example is in the Fellowship of the Ring. When Gandalf falls, Legolas moves slightly away from the group, and reflects back and quietly mourns. When they are in The Realm of the Lady of the Wood, Legolas comes back from a lament to Gandalf. He does not dare tell anyone what it says, because he admits, "I have not the heart to tell you. For me, the grief is still to near."
Elves are against the dwarf species, as they seem to be greedy, irritating little creatures. It is evident in the first movie, at Elrond Council, where Legolas is confronted by Gimli (a dwarf who chooses to represent his race and join the Fellowship). The beginning of their relationship is very hostile and dark, and Legolas shows this many a time with his facial expressions and body language- how he shows elves are "better" than dwarves.
Elves are amazing creatures. Legolas is amazing. In the first movie, he fights so easily, it's a nature about him. His voice is soft and sincere, and he has ability to do anything out of this world. Go to the Quotes Page to discover all of his lines in both movie installments.

In the second movie, The Two Towers, it is easy to call it a sequel, when really it's just a second-part of the movie. The second piece in a three-piece puzzle. But the result is so outstanding, that everything lures you to feel that this is a movie of its own nature, with just the history and background of the first movie, inside the heads of all who see it.
Legolas' character evolves gracefully, in The Two Towers.  Not only have he and Gimli become close friends, but Legolas is more skilled and more astounding than ever. He sees off into the distance, and sees to orcs with their former hobbit companions, Merry and Pippin. He can sense where they are going, and has a great intuition of what has happened and what WILL happen.

This movie was made for Legolas. No doubt. He has many spotlight moments.
Some of which (or ALL of which) I will describe:

    -  All of his lines are spoken beautifully
    - After the journey to Edoras, he is in The Golden Hall, and punches guards that are BEHIND him without looking back to see where they are
    - During a warg attack, Legolas fires an arrow into the distance (doesn't miss, of course) and senses his horse is riding up behind him. He jumps backwards and flips up onto it!
    - When Aragorn returns, he says "You look terrible" with great concern in his features
    - The way he speaks to Aragorn before the Battle of Helms Deep
    - The way he speaks in Elvish, all the time
    -  The way he senses everything and anything!
    - How Legolas surfs down the stairs, shooting orcs, at Helms Deep
    - He shoots a ladder full of orcs down with one arrow to prevent it coming to the wall
   -  I especially love his smile ....
