Serene Reflection

One of my favorite aspects of our Winter Term Outdoor Leadership class was our reflection time. We all took turns reading entries from our journals around the campfire which enabled us to peek into the minds of our fellow students. One entry which I particularly enjoyed was that of Tillman Ellis (above):
"We all sit by the fire...The smoke spins around the fire like a perverse game of spin-the-bottle. Finally, the smoke lands on me. My headlamp creates an illuminated cone of smoke. From below I imagine an ant would believe me to be a U.F.O., ready to lift it up and take it to a new world. I wonder what the ants think of us. To them, are we a pantheon of gods, depositing slices of coconut and other assorted breakfast spillage upon them?"
