Planning

On my first backpacking trip back in January, 2006, our English class had to learn how to properly wear and pack our backpacks. A crucial part of planning for Outdoor Leader student, Will Kirk (left), was to ensure that the English students could properly fit and carry the weight of their bags. Another key aspect of planning is knowing what you're going to pack and where it is located within your bag. I learned this lesson very quickly as I discovered that not only was it a pain to have to dig out the camera from under six layers of clothing, but when you're in dire need of the toilet kit and it's buried in the bottom of your bag, you could have some serious problems.
