The purpose of D&E Outdoor Resources is to provide students opportunities to grow in character and life lessons. As former head coach of the Women's Soccer Team, Mat Santoro states, "If all students get is an academic education, we have failed them. The bigger picture is the overall person. We're building maturity and character, the qualities that will make them better leaders, workers, parents, and neighbors." One of the programs which best exemplifies these qualities is the Recreation Management & Tourism Major offered at D&E. The Wilderness Experience, required of the RMTO major, provides the challenge of surviving in the outdoors. Above, students gained group experience by cooperating to make a debris hut as a survival shelter; Rajeh Oweis puts his trust in the craftsmanship of his classmates as he takes refuge under the debris structure.
