| Photo by Laura Bonser Out on the trail is one of the best places to learn new skills through experience. During an ORC sponsored hike along the Otter Creek Trail, I was in search of a good, sturdy hiking stick. Having much more experience in finding such a tool, our guide, Kevin Stitzinger (above right) successfully found such a tool! He then proceeded to demonstrate to the group the proper techniques of carving various designs into the young, green, exterior. Collecting new ideas for his own stick-carving project, Bill King (above left) intently soaked in every technique demonstrated by Kevin. Thus, our trip became much more than a mere jaunt through nature, but it was an opportunity to learn new, handy skills. |
