Kojinsha R Series

I bought the Kojinsha SR Black with eLearning pack (part of my son school online learning program – the school in Singapore really know how to up sell products to the parent), the price is SGD 1399 (I think). They wanted us to pay in installment and the eLearning is up till P3, so don’t asked me the pricing structure. Monthly about SGD 60.

The Kojinsha SR specs:

  • Microsoft® Windows Vista® Home Premium
  • Intel® processor A110(800MHz)
  • Memory 1GB
  • Hard Disk 60GB
  • Bluetooth Ver,2.0+EDR
  • CD/DVD Drive
  • Wireless LAN IEEE802.11 b/g
  • 7" Wide TFT Color LCD (LED Back light) with Touch Screen Resolution (standard display) WSVGA (1024×600)
  • Camera: 1.3 Million Pixels
  • 3 in 1 Media Slot: SD Card (SDHC/SDIO) / Memory Stick / MMC Card compatible, CF Card Slot (Type-II) x 1
  • Approx 1.1kg (with Standard Battery)

Review:

When opening the set, it looks small, much smaller than the EEE PC I bought for Clemens. I upgraded the RAM 2 GB and it is light.

The start up is slow (about 1 minute before you reach the main screen), this could be Vista. Once started I installed free AVG and OpenOffice. The subsequent start up is not that slow but still slow. The screen is running at 1024 x 600 on the 7” which make the font look tiny. But on running the messenger, the systems do jerk a little.

I quite impress with the touchscreen or tablet pc features of the set, you can write in Chinese character. One the LCD, you also have the joystick on the left and the right/left mouse button on the right.

The webcam is 1.3 MP and nothing to shout about it.

I also installed Lego Loco for my son and the playing the game, the screen looks OK to me.

As the processor is using intel Atom, the set comes with Origami features built in. Don’t asked me what is that, I guess it is nothing to do with the Japanes paper folding. The Microsoft Reader also enhanced with Origami and reading it on portrait do feels like reading from a paperback book.

Good:

Is light and good viewing in outdoor.

Good for internet and light computer usage.

Bad:

Slow (could be faster if using flash hard disk). If you running only eLearning, then the speed is OK.
