All about Left Eye's alter ego.

Left Eye met with Tha Row (formerly Death Row) CEO Marion Suge Knight at a Lakers' game in November 2001. She was unhappy with the way Arista president LA Reid was handling her Supernova project, and was looking for another way to showcase her creativity. As part of the Tha Row, she became NINA, which stands for "New Identity Non-Applicable" and is also slang for a 9 mm gun, because, as Suge put it, she's "good enough and strong enough to be a pistol."

Left Eye began recording her NINA LP, recording tracks such as "Blackout" with producer Kenny Whitehead. She never finished enough for a full album..

In January 2002, Left Eye appeared as NINA with Suge and other Tha Row players like Kurupt and Crooked I on BET's 106 & Park. (See photo to the left). During the interview, she spoke about her status with TLC, as well as how she came to Tha Row. "Left Eye is in TLC. Anything outside of Left Eye, outside of TLC, would be NINA."

On the subject of joining Tha Row, Left Eye stated, ""Actually, Tha Row found me (laughs). So I feel comfortable over here. Umm...this is a family. You know, there's a lot of love here, you know. And um, you know, I don't know about the past because I wasn't there, but I'm here now, and I hope that the vibe that I bring to Tha Row, you know, is a peaceful vibe, you know so...."

Left Eye also appeared with Tha Row crew on the cover of the May 2002 issue of XXL Magazine, which hit stores about a month before her death.
She wasn't included in the interivew, but the magazine featured several beautiful pictures of her (check them in the Picturez section). Suge also mentioned Left Eye in the article, saying: "She's good enough and strong enough to be a pistol. After hanging around with us, her concepts, her way of thinking, her outlook on life is totally different. Her attitude changed, and she's just a totally different person."

After Left Eye's death, Suge released this statement: "The thing this industry is always lacking is individuality. She always said what she wanted to say and did what she wanted to do. What I liked most about her was that she was a rebel. She wasn't afraid to go against the grain."

Sources say the NINA album, which was once tentativley titled
Fantasy, is not going to be released after all, even after multiple articles from Tha Row saying otherwise. It was supposed to be two NINA tracks (all Left Eye finished) and remixed songs from Supernova, but her family opposed. It will most likely never be released.

For now, one of two NINA tracks will see the light of day. It features Danny Boy and is titled "Too Street 4 TV". It's to be included on the Dysfunktional Family Soundtrack on Tha Row Records on March 25. Hear a snippet courtesy of CyberTLC.com to hold you over.
