Professional Experience:

System Administrator in FannieMae, Washington D.C. Dec’98 till date

  • Working as Team Lead. In Charge of nearly thousand servers, on weekends, that put together support a book of business of more than a Trillion dollars in the home mortgage industry.
  • As part of Unix Production Support, I have installed Solaris 2.6 / Solaris 8, partitioned hard disks and created file systems on Enterprise 4000/5000/5500/6500 systems.
  • Worked on ODS to create meta devices and mirror the hard disks on SSAs.
  • Worked on Veritas Volume Manager to create Volumes and plexes. Created Veritas File Systems on A5200 photon arrays.
  • Converted UFS Filesystems on SSAs to VxFS filesystems on Photon arrays.
  • Worked on the AXXION HA environment / VCS clustering. Did extensive failover testing to ensure proper failing over of the primary and secondary servers.
  • Installed print servers and configured network printers.
  • Worked in NIS+ enviornment. Created NIS+ users, added credentials and resolved NIS+ issues.
  • Analyzed the performance of UNIX using sar, ps, vmstat, netstat, iostat to know CPU utilization and bottle necks of io devices, memory usage and network traffic.

Software Engineer in Lucent Technologies Inc, Massachusetts Feb’98 - Dec'98

  • Worked as UNIX Administrator. Installed Solaris 2.5.1, partitioned the hard disks and created filesystems on Enterprise 6000 system.
  • Installed Veritas Volume Manager ver 2.4 and created volumes on Sparc Storage Array.
  • Installed Xterm servers (SUN and HP) and configured the X-terminals.
  • Configured ‘Install Servers’ for Solaris 2.5.1 and 2.6 and jump-started installation of workstations through jumpstart servers.
  • Configured Network File Sharing and enabled remote mounting of filesystems.
  • Installed Netscape Enterprise Server 3.0 and configured the web server.
  • Installed FDDI interface on Enterprise 6000 and configured it for the network.
  • Installed Solaris 2.6 on a domain in Enterprise 10000 and configured network interfaces in it.
  • Provided 24x7 support to the production division. Working in a highly demanding environment with very high machine uptime requirements.

 

Software Engineer in MediaOne, Massachusetts from Oct’97 to Jan’98

  • Worked as UNIX Administrator. Installed Solaris 2.5.1, partitioned the hard disks and created file systems using newfs and mounted file systems.
  • Configured DNS Primary and Secondary servers and created Sub-domains and delegated the authority to other servers for better performance.
  • Configured and established diskless clients and dataless clients with servers. For automatic mounting for clients, run Automounter daemon at server side.
  • Analyzed the performance of UNIX using sar, ps, vmstat, netstat, iostat to know CPU utilization and bottle necks of io devices, memory usage and network traffic.
  • Wrote shell scripts and added the entries in cron for taking regular backups, restore when System crashes.
  • Installed Netscape Enterprise Server version 2.1 and configured Magnus.conf and Obj.conf parameters.
  • Installed Personal Web Hosting software on 6 regional servers and configured the servers for proper functioning of the PWH software. Also, wrote cron scripts for automatic logging and report generation.

Software Engineer in WIPRO LTD, India from Apr’94 to Sep’97

  • Worked as UNIX System Administrator, Installed Solaris 2.x & SUN OS 4.x, partitioned and mounted file systems. Created user logins and configured printers.
  • For better performance of the system and to know the CPU utilization, bottle necks to disks and to tapes and in network used commands like sar, ps, vmstat, netstat, iostat. Depending on the need created /modified the SWAP files. Used Kernel Debugger to analyze the core dump files.
  • Installed Veritas Volume Manager on Sparc Storage array. Created Volumes and Configured RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, RAID 5. Resized the Unix filesystems using the volume manager according to the needs.
  • Installed and configured network equipment’s like Hub’s, LAN Terminal Servers (LTS) and Modems. Configured modems as Dial-in/Dial-out or Bi-directional and connected Solaris systems using UUCP.
  • Configured local and remote printers. Activated printer daemons and queues. Setup default printers and permissions depending user group.
  • Installed and administered NES 2.01 Web Server.
  • Installed WIN-NT 3.1, Configured Domain and WorkGroups in the network, centralized the user and group accounts. Configured the server for IPX/SPX protocol and TCP/IP.
  • Connected Windows NT workstations to WIN 95. Configured CD-ROM, Tape Drives and Hard Disks as sharable in WIN 95 environment and connected to IBM servers.
  • Installed SCO UNIX open server R5.0, partitioned and created file systems on disks. Created user logins and configured printers. Used CUSTOM tool for the installation of Additional Packages.
  • Used Sysadmin tool for kernel rebuilding and configuration of TCP/IP. Used make commands etc. for linking in UNIX.
