Review of Rifter # 3: Combining Martial Arts and Nightbane
Rifter Article by William Muench

Summary
While technically this is a "Nightbane" article, the fact of the matter is, it uses N&S martial arts. This article rates 6 out of 10 possible stars.

General Review
The disclaimer about most of the martial arts being relatively powerful is an important note for GMs wishing to use these styles in their N&S games. It should also be noted that all of these styles have relatively low Skill Costs. The author also seems to have a problem understanding Entrance Requirements as no alignment restrictions are ever listed.

Bishoudo
There is no entry for Attack Moves.
W.P. Knives - Paired under weapon Katas says "See below" but no area below is deliberately devoted to "W.P. Knives - Paired", a minor detail, but still an editing problem.
The lack of the correct wording in Martial Art Powers could be interpreted to mean that the character could select more than two powers.
No capitalization of combat moves in LABs.
Several moves (Death Blow, Critical Strike from Behind, and Knockout/Stun) not being listed in the Combat Skills section (meaning the style doesn't get them).
Erroneously lists Roll with Punch/Fall/Impact as Roll with Impact.

Chi-Kung
Entangle (oddly enough) is a Basic Defensive Move, not an Advanced Defense, as erroneously listed here.
No Critical Strike from Behind modifier listed in LABs.
Death Blow listed in LABs but not Combat Skills.
Automatic Dodge listed in LABs and not Combat Skills (the author clearly doesn't realize the differences between N&S auto dodges and non-N&S auto dodges).
No capitalization of combat moves in LABs
Automatic Body Flip not listed in Combat Skills
Automatic Wrist & Elbow Locks not listed in Combat Skills.
Erroneously lists Roll with Punch/Fall/Impact as Roll with Impact.

Chiang Di Chuang
Erroneously lists Roll with Punch/Fall/Impact as Roll with Impact.

W.P. Skirt note: This is one of the few so-called Weapon Proficiencies that isn't, it should have been a modifier to attack.
Automatic Body Flip not listed in Combat Skills
Automatic Wrist & Elbow Locks not listed in Combat Skills.
No capitalization of combat moves in LABs.
No Critical Strike from Behind modifier listed in LABs.

While Back Flip isn't listed in defenses in N&S, it would fall under Advanced Defenses, not Basic Defenses.
There is no entry for Attack Moves.
There is no W.P. Swords in N&S, so there should be a note about this W.P.

Yung Huo Jen
The biggest note is how this is one of the few items to ever receive an official errata by Palladium, and the full version of this style can be found on the Palladium Books web page.
Lacks the "Exclusive" identifier in the name of the style. Another style that costs two styles for no reason whatsoever.
Erroneously lists Roll with Punch/Fall/Impact as Roll with Impact.
There is no W.P. Swords in N&S, so there should be a note about this W.P.
No capitalization of combat moves in LABs.

Overall Review

Appearance: Overall, this didn't appear too bad.
Artwork: Wilson fills out Vince Martin's excellent Mystic China reprints with good artwork.
Structure: Other than making the same basic mistakes over and over, and the huge editing error, there's not much wrong with this article.
Editing: Yeah, this article could have used some heavy editing.
Continuity: With the lack of any N&S to Nightbane conversion rules for the various powers and abilities, this article is fairly useless for Nightbane.
