'Bike or Die' from Toyspring is the most original game ever seen for palm os. If Palm Pilots had A/V outputs, Bike or Die would be the number one arcade game. In a world of gravity, friction, and inertia, biking past the checkpoint flags to the finish is far from simplistic. The game provides many challenges, including climbing steep hills, jumping over wide canyons, and doing 180 degree flips in midair. If the cartoon-styled bike doesn't get turned around in time, a blood inclusive scene follows as the biker crashes straight into the bottom of a cliff. What makes this game so great is the broad range of playing capabilities: beat the levels to progress through over 700 original and downloadable levels. But the fun just starts there and continues as players try to set record completion times, which can be entered in an online competition among other players. One of the things that makes this game so fulfilling is the replay feature, which can record games, including crazy crash scenes, for replay on handhelds and in the Bike or Die freestyle competition. For those who do not think 700 levels is enough, you can make your own levels with the seamlessly integrated palm os program Bike or Design; place the ground, mines, flags, and snowmen where you want them, and then test the new level instantly. What is even better is that your level packs can also be saved on the Bike or Die website so others can download them. Bike or Design gives this addictive game endless possibilities to the point where you have no idea what the time is. All of a sudden, a low-battery message comes, and it's 3 A.M. The game offers constant action, challenges, and successes. Controls are customizable, optimized for 5-way navigators, and are similar to the controls of a real bike (when in a 2D world). The controls are accelerate, brake, flip (turn around), balance left, and balance right. The balance controls lift the left and right wheels for flips and jumps. Although Bike or Die is for palm os only, it supports and optimizes graphics for grayscale, color, high-res, and stretch-screen palms. Moving photo-textured clouds behind ground (with particle effects) work incredibly well in creating a moving effect. The sky and ground are each a combination of two colors, so each level can have a unique color theme. The newest version of Bike or Die has sampled sound effects, but the game is better with Mp3s in the background. The memory requirements are minimal: less than 500k for Bike or Die, 50k for Bike or Design, and under 1k for each level and recording. Everything you ever wanted- wherever- whenever- all for $15.
