It amazes me how when I look back and think our teachers were old and like "Were we never getting old?" I remember making a fake ID out of my temporary driving license in typing class. I got into King Richard's for a long time on that ID. I got good grades in typing because I sat in the back, and as long as you didn't type till the bell rang, you could start your timing early. Mr. Hume couldn't hear the keys but he could hear the bell.
I still see Shirley Carlson, Pam Carpenter, Darlene Holupka and Paulette Letrich. Beverly Blogna is still a cutup. We girls all went to St. Wenceslaus grade school. We've gotten together every August for a family picnic for about 16 years now. We call it the misfits reunion. A few times we have stayed overnite at a hotel with a pool and spa and talked all nite and pigged out. We get together for the wakes and funerals for each others' parents. I think they are all like 80+ or gone. Carol Cuchia came to the last picnic. She still looks the same: Great!
Boy, has Maple Heights changed. My kids graduated from Maple also. Neither of them have gone or even been contacted for a reunion. I was told that white kids do not walk to the high school. If you do, you get beat up.
My husband Bill and I usually vacation in Treasure Island, Florida, each February. We would like to retire down there, but I would miss the grandkids too much. All of my family except my brother Ron live in Cuyahoga County. Ron lives in Phoenix. We enjoy the Florida weather for a week and then head back.
I had a heart valve replaced 2 years ago. The doctors nicked my lung and then I got the C Diff infection. I spen 20 days in the hospital and am just glad to be alive. It took me about 6 months to get back on my feet. You know that saying our parents said, "You don't have nothing if you don't have your health." It's true. I am still on SS disability. They will probably cut me off, I have a hearing hin January 2007. I really missed working, when I had to quit my job. Missed the $$$ more. If Social Security throws me off, I will try for something part time.
I was surprised to see how many of our fellow students had passed. I went to the Vietnam traveling wall that was at Lakeland College last Memorial Day. I cried when I saw Tom Schneider's name on the wall. Tom lived on my street and we went to Raymond School together for a while. I always sat behind him in homeroom. He was listed dead as 6/69. He must have died right after he got there. I don't think he graduated with us. There was artwork that really was very good at the exhibit. It was done by a soldier and showed a lot of different ideas. If it ever comes near you, try to see it. It is very moving.
My phone number is (440) 257-6626. I wouldn't mind talking with anyone.
