Kool & The Gang added new Trumpeter Michael Ray to the band on the Something Special LP augmenting there already amazing horn section.
He also leads Micheal Ray And The Cosmic Crewe (hence the nickname) and appeared from then on until his departure after Forever.
He has now returned to the band and appears on their numerous live shows.
Michael means "godlike" (who resembles God),
Arthur means "Thor the eagle" (or "stone" or "bear")and
Ray means "advisor" or "protector"
