Chapter 8:  An Honest Chance

Mi-chan rang the bell of the Tenoh-Kaious house and waited for someone to answer the door.  Finally, Puroko did.
Her eyes widened at the green-haired girl before her.  She glanced at Mi-chans braid and tattoo before speaking.  Michiru-san!  What are you doing here?  Did you come to see me? she asked excitedly.
Sorry, Puroko-chan.  I came to talk to Tenshi-kun.  Can I come in?
Puroko let her in.  Tenshis kinda busy though.  Shes getting ready for a date, she said as if it was a big secret she was only letting Mi-chan in on.  Its with Neko-san, but shes all nervous.  Is that why youre here?  To help her?
Yeah, something like that.  She let Puroko lead her up to Tenshis room.  Tenshi was sitting on her bed, her head in her hands.  She was still in her school uniform.
     Tenshi, Michiru-sans here!
Tenshi looked up.  Her face held a pathetic cry for help, though she didnt verbalize it.  Oh, Tenshi-kun, Mi-chan said sympathetically.
It shouldnt be this hard.  Ive done this a million times, you know? she laughed nervously.
Its okay.  Ill help you prepare for her.  She smiled encouragingly at Tenshi.  Deep down, shes the same Neko-chan.  And Ill help you with the differences.  You are going to get past this with flying colors.
I dont even have the slightest idea what I should wear.
Well, that was obvious.  Mi-chan didnt think shed still be hanging around in her fuku if she knew what she was planning to wear tonight.  Well, she seems to be looking at a guy right now, she said as she started rifling through Tenshi closet, so Im thinking you cant go wrong doing your bishonen thing.
     My bishonen thing?
Yeah, you know.  The thing where youre a bishonen.
Tenshi stood up in protest.  But she likes me in more feminine clothing.
Mi-chan was glad that Tenshi had finally decided to take a more active role in this decision-making process.  She hadnt expected this to be this hard.  A date with Neko should have been second nature to Tenshi.  But then again, Tenshi had never had to go on a date with a reluctant Neko.  Normally, she would, but she doesnt seem to want to accept her lesbianism.  So for today, think bishonen.  She had seen some good choices in Tenshis closet, but realized that she didnt know if Tenshi had something fancy or casual planned.
Okay, do you at least know where youre taking her?
Uh, maybe dinner and a show?
Mi-chan thought about that.  Dinners good.  Youll have a chance to talk to her.  You know, do that charm thing you do so well.
Charm thing?  To go with my bishonen thing.
Yeah, now youre talking!  Itll be just like your first date.
Our first date, Tenshi repeated slowly.  I can do that, she said more confidently.
     Thats the spirit!

Tenshi looked at the white and glowing pink roses in the fridge.  For the hundredth time today she considered what to do with them.  She still didnt know how Neko would feel about flowers.  She smiled at the memory of the first time she had gone on a date with Neko.  She hadnt known what to do with her roses then either.
So? Mi-chan asked.  Tenshi had been staring in the fridge for quite awhile, Mi-chan and her parents surrounding her, helping with the last few details she wanted to prepare before the date.
I just dont know.  I dont want to risk her throwing the flowers back in my face.  What if she thinks Im being a bit forward?
Haruka pointed out, She already knows its a date.  How much more forward can you be?
Not every girl considers the act of dating the final expression of your affection for her, Haruka, Michiru scolded her wife.
Haruka knew she was in trouble.  What I meant was
Tenshi cleared her throat to get their attention back on her.  Flowers or not?
Yes. No.  They looked at each other.
You brought me flowers whenever we were fighting.
Yeah, but not before you knew you liked me.  I mean, you started off wanting to drive in my car with me.  They smiled at each other.
Hey, guys, Tenshi sighed, exasperatedly.  Please!  Some of us are panicking here.  She couldnt believe she was playing this scene
again!

Tenshi-kun, relax!  Ive never seen you so nervous, Mi-chan said.  I mean, you werent this nervous before your real first date with her, were you?
     Yes, Tenshi insisted.
     She was, her parents seconded.
Oh, Mi-chan was taken aback.  You seemed so cool then.  Howd you get over it?
Tenshi blushed.  She said I was beautiful and called the event a date.
Oh, yeah.  Mi-chan had forgotten the part of that anecdote when Neko and Tenshi hadnt known whether the other thought they were going as dates or as friends.  Well, take my word for it; its a date this time.  She glanced at her watch.  You know, I should go see if Neko-chan is going to be ready on time.  Her real concern was whether she was even giving it a second thought, but she didnt bother to share the cynical notion with the already jumpy Tenshi.
As Tenshi showed her to the door, Mi-chan left her with some parting instructions.  Okay, relax.  Just be your charming self.  Remember, she thinks of this as a first date but dont try to relive the first date, even the pre-dance part of it.  Shes essentially Neko-chan, but shes not completely the same, and she wont be making the first move like she did the last time.  And most importantly, no matter what happens,
dont kiss her!  Got it?
Tenshi nodded.  Ne, Mi-chan?  Mi-chan stopped before completely out the door.  Thank you so much, Tenshi said gratefully.
