�We were broken up,� Tenshi said quietly. �She forgave me for that.�
�She would,� Jasper admitted sadly, remembering his own offenses against his princess. �I guess I�ve done my share of betraying her, huh?� Both of them having settled down a bit, he looked up hopefully at Tenshi. �She�s absolutely the most wonderful person alive, isn�t she?� As Tenshi indicated her agreement, he continued, �Can you really blame me for falling in love with her?�
�Y- You fell in love with her?� Tenshi asked, understanding filling her eyes. She sat down on the stone wall surrounding her yard, processing the new information.
He nodded. �I couldn�t help it. I tried to stop � every time I thought about it, I�d see Amethyst or you, and I�d tell myself not to let it happen. And I�d try to pull away, but I couldn�t, and she�s so sweet, and I can�t stand to see her cry or to be away from her. Even now I wish I was back in her presence. Dumb, huh?� he said, trying not to show in his voice how close to tears this conversation had made him. �Falling in love with my princess? Me� with Neko-chan?�
�No, it�s not,� Tenshi promised him. �She likes you. Better than me right now, in fact. And it is her choice. Whatever she decides, the most important thing is that she�s happy�,� she hesitated, �even if it�s not with me.�
They sat on the wall, thinking for a moment. Suddenly, Jasper began to chuckle.
�Nani?� Tenshi asked, surprised by his change in mood.
�Ne, you never were attracted to me, were you?�
Tenshi laughed lightly too. �Um, you�re not exactly my type. First and foremost, you�re a guy. You?�
�Yeah, you�re a little too guyish for my tastes too. It�s a good thing. That would�ve made this perfectly ridiculous, huh? We�d have had a perfect love quadrangle then.� Jasper had calculated it all out. Amethyst had loved him and had been attracted to both Neko and Tenshi. Tenshi had made out with Amethyst and, of course, loved Neko. And he had loved both Amethyst and Neko. All they needed was for him and Tenshi to have some kind of attraction between the two of them to complete the square. �Thank god for small favors at least.�
�I wholeheartedly agree. It�s already confusing enough as it is.�
�Yeah�. Ne, Tenshi-san. I�m sorry.�
She shook her head and smiled at him confidently. �I�m not giving up, Jasper-san. If it�s meant to be, Koneko and I will be together. That�s the way it is!� She jumped up off the wall and started back toward the house. �Ne, Jasper-san!� she called back to him with a wink. �Don�t think you�re getting off that easily. You�ll have to fight me for her!� Then she turned and ran home.
