Chapter 2: Heat

"Whatcha doing?" Mi-chan asked, seeing Neko working diligently on something at her desk.  It was early Saturday morning, and Neko was done with her weekend homework.  She should've been relaxing.
"I thought I'd make a list of who I wanted to come to the wedding.  It'll be good for invitations," Neko answered wearily.  Mi-chan thought she looked a bit drained.
     "Neko-chan,
daijoubu ka?"
"Hai.  I'm just a little tired."
Mi-chan pulled her desk chair over to Neko's desk and sat backwards in it, her legs curling around the back legs.  "Did you sleep okay?"
"I thought I did.  I don't know, maybe I was a bit worried about today."
Mi-chan tried to remember what was going on, but came up with nothing.  "Why, what happens today?"
"Oh, Tenshi and I are planning to tell Haruka-sama and Michiru-sama that we're engaged," she confided to Mi-chan.  "
Otou-san and Okaa-san knew right away because of Otou-san, but we've been keeping it from Tenshi's parents."
Mi-chan knew why.  Neko was a little scared of Haruka.  She had always held Haruka and Michiru in high regard, but she had told Mi-chan that she thought Haruka didn't like her.  Mi-chan knew that wasn't true.  Haruka, who was Mi-chan's fencing coach, had given her every indication that she thought Neko was a great person and good for Tenshi, though she did have some reservations about how fast their relationship had progressed.  However, one thing that Mi-chan would admit was that Haruka would not be happy that Neko was "taking" her oldest daughter from her.
"It'll be fine.  Tenshi-kun will be there.  Besides, Haruka-san and Michiru-sama like you.  I'm sure their main complaint will be that you two have been so silly and not told them yet," she assured Neko with a roll of her eyes.
Neko smiled gratefully and returned to her list.
Mi-chan decided that it was too hot in their room.  "Ne, I'm getting some water.  Do you want anything?"
"Some ice water'd be nice," Neko answered.
"Okay, I'll be back to finish this conversation in a minute."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Mi-chan returned with the drinks.  "I hope I'm on that list," she teased as she sat Neko's glass on the desk next to her.
"Yep, you're number two," Neko announced.
"Number two?"  Mi-chan peered over her twin's shoulder to see this questionable list.  "Who beat me out?"

Tenshi

Mi-chan
          Mom and Dad

Mi-chan began to laugh.  "Neko-chan, I'm pretty sure Tenshi-kun will be there.  She's kinda important to the actual event."
"Doesn't make me want her there any less," Neko said seriously, putting down her pencil.  She picked up the glass and downed the entire drink at once.  She hadn't been aware of how thirsty she was until the liquid hit her lips, but now she realized just how dry her throat was.
     "Thirsty?"
"Yeah."  Neko looked at her watch and sighed.  It was almost time for her to leave.  "I should finish getting ready."
"Neko-chan, are you sure you're okay?" Mi-chan asked as Neko sat down on her bed and looked through the jewelry box on her dresser for some earrings that were different from the usual dangling blue hearts.  Mi-chan didn't look convinced that Neko wasn't suffering from some ill that she was keeping to herself.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Well," Neko gave up her search and looked up at Mi-chan, stating, "It
is kinda hot in here, huh?  Do you think it's hot?"
Mi-chan nodded.  "Maybe you're just stressed about talking to Haruka-sama and Michiru-sama and I'm picking up on it, ne?"
"Could be."  Neko closed her eyes and put her hand to her head. "I have a headache too," she admitted as she massaged her temples.
"Well, duh.  Try not to do so much after today, okay?  You're only in high school, you shouldn't be expected to plan the wedding alone.  Besides, you've got over a year, so why do everything right now?"
Talking about the wedding reminded Neko that she had to switch the finger her ring was on.  She swapped the hand it was currently on for the safer, less suggestive one as she poked fun at Mi-chan's exaggerated statement of Neko's current task.  "Oh, please, I'm just making a list of invitations!  It's not like I'm picking out a dress.  Anyway, if I do more now, then I don't have to worry so much later."
Mi-chan pondered this and shook her head.  "I don't think it works that way.  It's your wedding, you're going to worry.  Besides
you always worry."
Neko threw a pillow at her.  She started to get up.  "Well, Tenshi's waiting for"  A wave of dizziness hit her, and she sat back down, "me."
Instantly, Mi-chan was at her side.  "Neko-chan, daijoubu ka?"
"Yeah, I just stood up too fast," Neko assured her.  Except she only half believed it.
"You weren't picking out flowers yesterday/last week/ever, were you?"
"No, why would you-?  Oh.  It's nothing, really."
Mi-chan seemed skeptical.  "Yeah, I've heard that one before."  The last time Neko had felt dizzy, she had been affected by some flowers that a general was using to lure Neko to her.  Mi-chan had stopped Neko from sleepwalking there, but the result had been an intense headache that had dogged Neko all day and would have continued if they hadn't ended up finding the general.  "Stand up!"
     "Mi-chan, I'm-"
"Stand up, or I'll go get Mom and Dad right now to check you out!"
