Part 5, page 3
"I see my reputation precedes me."
"Yeah, why don't you find someone else to bug?"
~*~*~*~*~*~
Joe smirked.  It seemed like Kat (he thought it was Kat at least; who could keep the two straight?) was pretty possessive of her friend.  Oh, well, nevermind her.
"I was just about to ask this fine lady for a dance, as a matter of fact."
~*~*~*~*~*~
Angel didn't miss a beat.  "Oh, Joe, I'm sorry.  But, you see, I promised Kat that I'd give her a dancing lesson next."
She saw the frown disappear from Kat's.  Well, she had mentioned that she didn't dance well.  And it'd get them away from Joe.  But apparently the girl couldn't help teasing Joe, either.
"Oh, but Angel.  You know, maybe Joe needs a lesson in dancing too."
"Oh?  Would you like one?" she teased him.
"No!  Uh, I mean-" Kat giggled at his discomfort.  Joe knew that a dance lesson would get him a dance, but first he'd have to admit to needing one.
"Oh well.  I guess the next lesson belongs to you then, Kat," she said as the song changed, "shall we?"
She was glad for the escape as Kat took her outstretched hand and said, "I'd love to learn."
~*~*~*~*~*~
Jian-wa felt betrayed.  Not really jealous, but betrayed.

We told you so.  All that those Sailor brats are good at is betraying people.  Look at what they did to your father.
*But it's not fair.  I thought she was better than that.  That she might be different.  She always seemed nice.*

But if she's been lying to you from the beginning?
     *I guess so*

Look, stupid.  We tried to tell you. She's worse than the others.
Jian-wa looked over at where Mitch was talking with that Isaac guy.

Told you so.  They're all like that.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Finally, Mitch was able to escape from Isaac.  He was nice and all, but she liked Jian better.  And she was ready to dance with him!
She had seen Kat make her way to the dance-floor with Angel.  She sent her a mental message to make sure that he didn't step on her toes.  Kat sent her one back saying that she was more likely to step on Angel's toes than the other way around.  *
You're not that bad!* Mitch thought back
She watched them dance.  They were great.  It was amazing how a good dance partner could improve one's dancing.  Mitch had never seen Kat dance so well.
She sighed, a little jealous as Angel twirled Kat around.  Kat's dress was perfect for twirling in.  Somehow he had managed it so that he didn't have to twirl her in the opposite direction without twisting either of their arms in the process.
Mitch watched them for a couple more songs.  The two of them were so cute.  They seemed to dance well together for both fast songs and slow songs.  They were practically in sync.  How did they learn to compliment each other so well?
She sighed again.  When would Jian ask her to dance?  Man, it would've been so much easier if he hadn't originally still been hung up on Kat.  Oh well, no reason to think about such things now.  She'd ask him to dance!
"Hey Jian, want to dance?  Hello?  Jian?"
It was obvious that Jian's thoughts were elsewhere, but he covered it well.
"Oh sorry.  I was just thinking about how good that dress looked on you.  Um, sure I'd love to dance."
~*~*~*~*~*~
"Oh, yay!  Look over there!" Kat squealed quietly when she finally took a second to look around the auditorium.
Angel followed her gaze to where Jian and Mitch were dancing.  She wasn't sure she had forgiven Jian for making Kat cry, but apparently Kat had.  "Your right," Angel admitted.  "They do make a cute couple.  Do you want to go over there?"
"No, that's ok," Kat sighed happily as her eyes returned to her teacher.
~*~*~*~*~*~
*If they think I'm gonna give up just like that* thought Joe as he headed toward the dance floor towards the end of the song.
As soon as the song had ended, he tapped on Kat's shoulder.  "Hope I'm not interrupting anything.  But I'd like to cut in."
Kat looked at Angel as if for guidance.  He noticed that Angel didn't immediately let go of Kat, which annoyed him greatly.  What was wrong with this woman?!
But finally she seemed to come around and turned away from Kat.  Kat looked a little hurt, but Joe knew she'd get over it.  Then to his surprise, Angel said, "Actually, I was just going to get some of that rice they have in the reception area."
Instantly Joe was at the reception table.  A dust cloud appeared where he had been previously.
"Wait a sec, I don't see any rice."
He looked back at where his target had been.  But Angel and Kat were gone.
~*~*~*~*~*~
"Hmm, I wonder where they're going."
Jian-wa looked up at where Mitch was pointing.  Kat and Angel were running towards one of the side rooms in the auditorium.  They would be separated from the crowd.
     "That's good."
     "What d'you mean?"
He looked directly at her and said smoothly, "Now I won't have to compete with them for your attention."
      "Aww."
