Part 5 -  A Piece of Heaven

They walked into the dance arm and arm.  "Ready to meet my siblings?" she asked.  She knew that Mitch and Jian weren't there yet, but Kim and Gaby should have been there.  She knew they'd find her, eventually.
For a dance, the auditorium was pretty well lit.  They were playing a slow song at the moment and many couples were already out on the dance floor.  There was a reception area that had drinks and snacks against the wall opposite the entrance.
"Um, maybe we should check out the reception area?  You know, they usually have good food there."
"Angel, silly, you're not getting shy on me are you," she teased.  She turned and then sighed.  "Besides, they've already spotted us."
~*~*~*~*~*~
Kim saw Kat first.  She abandoned her friends to find Gaby and point her out to him.  "Where'd she find that gorgeous hunk?!  Can I get one too?"
Gaby looked at where she was pointing and did a double take.  "Um, I've never seen him before.  At least I don't think I have."
Kim looked at him.  "Gee, well, maybe we oughtta get a closer look," she suggested seriously, and proceeded to drag him over to where Kat and the cute guy were standing.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Gaby couldn't believe that Kim had dragged him over to see Kat and her new boyfriend.  First of all, he had been about to get a dance with Mimi, a girl from his class, when Kim had interrupted.  Secondly, he would have preferred to check out the couple from afar before announcing his presence to them.  Honestly, didn't Kim understand the concept of spying on someone?
Then, of all things, Kim got there and suddenly got shy.  Gaby couldn't help but roll his eyes.
"Yo, Kat, where've you been?" he asked.
"Oh, dinner ran a little later than we expected."  He looked at her expectantly.  He noticed her date did too.
     "Uh, Kat?  Hello?!"
"Oh my goodness, where are my manners?  Angel, this is my brother Gaby, I mean Gabriel, and my younger sister Kim.  You guys, this is Angel, my new friend from the pole vault team."
"Nice to meet you, Gabriel."  After shaking hands with Gaby, Kat's friend moved on to Kim.
"A pleasure, my lady." He took her hand and kissed it.  She giggled.
Gaby looked at Kat.  She was beaming.  *New friend?  Whatever!  Sure, he's charming too.  Even calling me Gabriel, instead of Gaby.  Yeah, well, he might fool them, but he can't fool me.  He has to have some secret or something.  I'll figure it out.*
~*~*~*~*~*~
At that moment, Mitch and Jian arrived.  Mitch quickly surveyed the scene and started searching for her twin.
"Come on, Jian, don't you want to see Kat and meet her date?"
"Whoa, hold on!  Kat has a date?"
"Duh-uh.  Oh, wait, look, she's over there!"
Mitch started dragging him with her, but stopped suddenly, causing him to almost run her over.
*Is that guy her date?!  He really is gorgeous!* There was no mistaking that the guy standing next to Kat was the same guy she had seen her sister leave with.  She was certain of it.
Kat apparently had sensed her presence because she turned around and motioned for them to come over.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Kat could almost hear Mitch's reaction to Angel, and she hadn't even turned around yet.  She motioned for them to come over, taking special note of the looks on their faces.  Mitch practically had hearts popping out of her eyes.  Jian's were filled with fire.  At first, Kat wondered why.  Then she realized that they thought Angel was a guy.
She caught Angel's attention (she was entertaining Kim) and motioned in their general direction with her eyes. Angel nodded and turned around as they came up.
"Uh, Mitch, Jian, I'd like you to meet Angel.  Angel, this is my sister Michelle, and this is her date and my best friend, Jian-wa."
Angel took Mitch's hand and kissed it, as she had done for Kim.  "Kat neglected to tell me she had such a charming sister," she said charismatically.
"Speaking of charming, you sure know how to pick them," Kim told Kat.  The she looked inquiringly at her, "Why are you blushing?  Did I say something wrong?"
"Really, Kim.  Angel and I are just friends," Kat said quietly.
"Oh."  Suddenly the song changed, and a fast one came on.  "Oh, I love this song!  I'm sorry, but I gotta go dance now.  Bye.  Oh, by the way," she looked at Angel, "I still think he's cool."  She ran off to join her friends.
Kat forgot about Kim as she realized that Jian was giving Angel the third degree.  If it wasn't so frustrating for both her and Mitch, his jealousy would almost be funny.
     "So where'd you two meet?"
"Oh, we're on the pole vault team together."
"Oh, really?!  You know, I've never heard her mention you before.  You must not be very good, then."
"No, no!" Kat protested.  "Angel's a great pole vaulter.  Better than me."
Jian snorted. "Well, not to be sexist or anything, but aren't guys usually better at pole vaulting than their female counterparts?"
Angel coughed, apparently just realizing that everyone there thought she was a guy.  She looked at Kat, who couldn't really thing of anything to say.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Jian, meanwhile, took their discomfort as a victory.
~*~*~*~*~*~
And Mitch had the presence of mind to break the whole discussion up by asking Jian to get her a drink.  He did as she asked.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Gaby had decided that maybe it would be best to make sure that his sister wasn't dating someone who was evil.  After all, it would really suck to have his oldest sister be seduced by evil.  He sensed evil in the immediate area, trying to ignore the distractions around him, but all he could find was that both Kat and Angel knew something that he didn't know..
But he knew he had seen this guy before.  He just couldn't quite place him.
~*~*~*~*~*~
Kat wondered what Gaby was doing.  He seemed to be concentrating very hard on something.  Oh well, it probably wasn't important.
Now that Jian wasn't around making trouble (what was wrong with that silly boy?), Kat wanted to relax and have fun.  She grabbed Mitch for some girl talk.
"How's your date with Jian going?"
"Really good!  He took me to that nice restaurant on the corner of 'Oak' and 'Cedar' streets."
"Whoa, no way!  Wow, that's expensive.  Although I guess so was mine."  Kat giggled, "I went to the Yacht Club."
