| "Well, that's just silly. If I didn't think you were mature enough, we wouldn't be here." Then she said more seriously, "Kat I really think that you and I could be good friends. I mean, if you don't want to be friends, that's one thing and I'll understand. But if you do, then nothing should stop us." "Are you trippin'? Of course, I want to be friends!" "Well, in that case, I shall have to double my efforts, huh?" Angel reached across the table and took Kat's hands in hers. Kat was still blushing from before, but that didn't stop her. "Katherine Mizuno, I would be honored to be your friend. You are smart, cute, nice. I cannot believe how lucky I am that someone like you would want to be my friend." Kat wanted to protest, wanted to explain just how wonderful she found Angel, how she had thought that Angel really personified her name, how she had been charmed from the moment she had seen her, but the words just wouldn't come. On top of that, she could feel tears well up in her eyes. She knew that if she spoke now, she wouldn't be able to keep them from being released. Naturally, it was at this time that the waiter came with their drinks. Both of them jumped when the waiter put down their drinks. "Are the gentleman and lady ready to order?" he asked. They both glanced guiltily at their unopened menus. Angel recovered first. "Oh, uh, we'd like a few more minutes, if that's ok?" "As sir wishes." The waiter left, and Kat giggled. "What is it?" "A couple things," she said. "First of all, it's amusing that he thinks you're a guy." Angel shrugged. "I also think it's funny that these straws don't have wrappers on them." "And that's funny because?" "Uh, I think it's best if we at least look at the menus before I start in on that story." ~*~*~*~*~*~ Some rice, sushi, and a shared piece of mud pie (they couldn't resist) later, Kat had finally told her about the disastrous events that took place the last time she had been to the Yacht Club. "No wonder you were hiding from the matre d'." "Yeah, well, between the straw wrappers, the wrestling, and Gaby speaking 'sailor talk' to the matre d', I didn't want him to even associate me with the group." "So they threw out Mitch and Gaby, but left you and Joe? Isn't Joe that new Starlight?" So she did know about the new Sailor Scouts and stuff. "Yeah, he is. We had moved to another table because we still wanted to see if we could get info about what was happening out on the docks." "Oh, I see." "Angel," she teased, "give me a break! I know Amara probably told you all these horror stories about the Starlights, but really, the Starlights aren't that bad. Even from what I've heard of Fighter, Maker, and Healer, they turned out alright. Although to tell you the truth, I have my doubts about Joe." She rolled her eyes. Angel couldn't help but laugh. ~*~*~*~*~*~ The check came about 5 minutes later. Kat took the money out of her small purse (holding not much else than that - lipstick and her communicator watch were the only other contents) and got ready to pay. "No, really, I'll get it," Angel offered. "No way, I'm making up for the car." "Yeah, but I just said that to make you feel better. I didn't really mean it. I wouldn't have brought you to such an expensive place if I had thought that you were actually going to pay." "Look, Angel. I'm not going to back out of this. I promised and I'm paying! And that's that! I'm not going to take 'no' for an answer!" Even after buying the dress, she almost had had enough to cover it herself. She wondered if her dad knew that part of his "money for emergencies" (occasionally, known as the "Bank of Dad") was going to pay for dinner. Probably. After all, he was psychic. |
