| "Is this friend cute?" Mi-chan giggled. "Yeah," Neko smiled dreamily, thinking about Tenshi. "Short blond hair, aquamarine eyes, a little taller than us." That last part was always important. They were tall for Japanese women! "Ooh, Neko-chan's in love." "Cut it out!" "Oh, how kawaii!" "Yamate!" "So what's his name?" ~*~*~*~*~*~ They walked into the house just as the phone rang. "Neko-chan, phone's for you!" Kimako called from the other room. "Ooh, is it her boyfriend?" "Cut. It. Out." Neko was tired of this game now. "Go make yourself a hoagie sandwich, why don't you?" Mi-chan thought about it for a second but shook her head. "No, if your date is calling, that's too exciting." And after a second, realizing that the only person who ever called Neko before today was Jian-kun "or if mine's calling too." "It's Puroko-chan," Kimako clarified for them as she left the room. Mi-chan shrugged and went to the kitchen to make herself a huge hoagie sandwich. Neko ran over to the vid-phone. "Puroko-chan!? Why are you calling me? Do your parents know you're calling?" Puroko giggled and shook her head. She was a pretty hyper kid and she was bouncing up and down in her chair. "Are you really going to the dance with Tenshi, huh? Huh? Huh?" "Uh, we're." "Tenshi says you're going to pay for dinner. Gee, that's nice of you. You must really like her." Neko blushed. "I don't know why, it's just Tenshi. But you're nice, Neko-san! You gave me coffee ice cream, and Tenshi says it's your favorite. I wanted to thank you for sharing 'cuz I never did thank you 'cuz I didn't know it was your favorite 'til Tenshi told me." Neko couldn't help but giggle at the eight-year-old who looked a little sheepish, but was still bouncing up and down. "Are the two of you going to dance to slow dances? Are you going to kiss?" Of course, the girl would be ok with same-sex relationships. Her parents were both women! Neko hadn't thought about that. Even if Tenshi wasn't interested in girls, she'd probably be fine hanging out with someone who was because she grew up with it. How could Neko have missed this obvious detail? She sighed in relief. "Are you, huh?" "Wha- what did you say?" Puroko sighed. "Are you going to kiss?" "Puroko-chan, is Tenshi-kun there? Can I speak to her?" "She's out getting flowers oops!" Puroko-chan looked upset. "I wasn't s'posed to say that. Don't tell her I did, 'kay? 'Cuz she hasn't decided. 'Kay being quiet now." Suddenly, it clicked. (Finally!) It was a date. Tenshi wasn't just interested in "hanging out." She wanted to go to the dance with Neko. And she had talked about it with her family, no less. *But she probably doesn't know what I think about it. Kami-sama, we're dumb. If one of us had just asked.* Puroko was looking at her expectantly. She was even pouting a little. *Now why is she so upset?* "Neko-san! Are. You. Going. To-" "Oh!" Neko had forgotten the question again. She had hoped that Puroko had forgotten too, but she had a one track mind when she wanted. She had probably waited forever to use the vid-phone as soon as she heard that Neko had shared her favorite ice cream. She blushed. "Um, well, that- that depends on, uh, Tenshi-kun." "Oh, ok. I'll tell her then." Neko was horrified. "No! Don't tell her, ok?" She put her finger to her lips. "Because I wasn't supposed to say, you know." She hoped that Puroko would pick up on the trade of favors. Puroko smiled. "'Kay!" "But you can tell her that in your personal opinion, flowers would be great. As long as they don't clash with red." |
