| WHAT IS A METEOROLOGIST? |
| A meteorologist is a person who studies weather patterns. There is some controversy in the scientific community over this terminology. Many feel one must obtain at least a bachelor's degree in atmospheric science or geoscience to be considered a true meteorologist. Currently, this is not a requirement. You will notice many on air broadcasters are called meteorologists but may actually only have a degree in broadcasting. |

| WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FORECASTER AND WEATHER OBSERVER? |
| A forecaster is trained to use various methods, data and scientific models in an attempt to predict the weather, They also authorize weather watches and warnings to be announced when weather events turn threatning. |
| A weather observer is trained to accurately determine all meteorological events at the time they are occurring. These are called surface weather observations. Observers report such events on an hourly basis or when significant weather events begin or end. Weather observers assemble and plot data for use by the forecaster. The information provided by the weather observer is often critical in determining when a weather watch or warning is activated. |
| WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FUNNEL CLOUD AND A TORNADO? |
| When you hear the term funnel cloud, it simply means the vortex has not yet come into contact with the groud. A tornado is a funnel cloud that has touched the ground. |
