Skywatching 2025 - Reports
Report 1: Sandringham Beach, Sandringham, Victoria
Date of Skywatch - May 31, 2025
10.30 pm - 11.30 pm
Equipment:
Kodak superzoom digital camera, large extendable photographic tripod, Philips sensitive digital audio recorder (three microphones), binoculars, laser pointer (green light)
Description:
I conducted a solo skywatch looking out over the water from a foreshore area behind Sandringham beach for one hour. My camera was mounted on a large tripod, my sound recorder was placed on a flat surface at a height of about 30 cm off the ground. Several short videos were taken during the session as well as a few photographs - no evidence of anything unusual. Also, I activated my digital recorder for short periods (1-3 minutes) and have yet to review those audio files, but I am not expecting anything interesting. And I utilised my laser pointer to "scan" the sky in horizontal and box movements - the photos below demonstrate my attempt to capture the laser being utilised by me (the nearby streetlights seemed to render the laser beam invisible when I tested it parallel to the road and pointing towards nearby trees. The laser did not seem to influence events during this session - it would be interesting to see if in future sessions this demonstrated some relationship to any anomalous activity.
Results:
I observed four ships on the bay, and two orange lights traveling to the east which I believe were aircraft. I confirmed with binoculars (and later with an ADS-B tracker app) an aircraft turning from the East to the North at about 11.08 pm, featuring two orange lights aligned with a red light in a centre position (no sound was audible). It was a clear night for viewing conditions with many stars visible. No anomalous phenomena either sighted or recorded on digital images. I will supply updates to this report should any new information arise.
