Hi,my name is Sandy Hawkins,me and my husband adopted 3 orphan foals from Casey Creek. They are all 2 or turning 2 in the next month. I have a 3/4 Belgian 1/4 Morgan named Dusty,he is just like a "BIG" puppy, and follows me around as I do my chores! I also have a Walkaloosa (TWH/Appaloosa) named Lightning,he is the character in the bunch! I have a Kawasaki mule, and he runs after me in it,trying to eat the left over hay left in the back of it,and last but certainly not least I have a SSH (Spotted Saddle Horse) cross named Patches.

Patches is a beauty, very graceful. She was the Momma of the bunch. She would boss all the other foals around, and they all followed her everywhere she went. She was the first foal I fell in love with. Jeannie sent her picture to FoalRescue and I couldn't reply fast enough that we wanted her. I printed out her picture and showed it to everyone I knew, then little Lightning came to Casey Creek a couple of days before I left to go to Casey Creek.

Lightning was a little down in his back legs when he first came to Casey Creek at a few days old,but that did not stop us from taking that foal home! Jeannie was even concerned about him,and got a vet to look at him,to make sure he would be OK,but we didn't care about any of it,he needed a home and a chance at life like the rest of the foals, and we were the ones to give it to him, luckily! I'm so glad we did,and it wasn't a month later his legs were as straight as a board,he just needed a little time, and now you should see him float with the most beautiful gait after the Kawasaki mule...LOL

Dusty is our first draft, and we are very glad we took a leap of faith, and decided to give a home to one of the big guys too! We now know why the are called Gentle Giants. He is so calm, and sweet. We think we will be able to get right on his back when it is time to start riding our horses, with no resistance,we are hoping?!

We never had any health problems at all raising these orphans, except scours at the very beginning, and that was mostly from switching milk replacers on them. We had a hard time at first finding a store that kept enough on hand without running out,but after talking to our local feed store he ordered by the pallet full, because we weren't the only people in our town raising orphan foals from Casey Creek, my daughter Rhonda had adopted 2 from Casey Creek ,and her neighbor but I will leave that for Rhonda to tell, she has to have something to write when she is adopter of the month.

I'm very thankful for what Casey Creek does, and even more thankful for them letting me adopt the 3 most wonderful horses a lady could wish for in her barn.
