My name is Rhonda, and I was one of the first lucky adopters of two Casey Creek orphan foals their first year in 2000. I adopted a TWH/KMSH gray filly named Cassidy, and a Percheron/QH gray filly named Shawnee. They both are the lights of my life, and I will never part with them.I will tell you the story of how I came to find Casey Creek, and adopt these wonderful orphan foals. I had just sold my Paint mare to my Father,I knew she was going to a good home.:-) And was looking on the internet for a gaited Palomino mare to replace her.I had never been around a foal before,so getting a foal wasn't even on my mind! I went to some horse site, that had links to horse rescues and I clicked the button, it must have been destiny, because my life has totally changed since that click, I have the most wonderful, beautiful horses I could ever imagine, and I have meet the most wonderful friends I could of ever hoped for..:-) As soon as I read CC site, I knew I had to save one of these orphan foals, I couldn't think of anything else! I started telling everyone I knew about the foals and what Jeannie and Ken were trying to accomplish. I must have told my Mom and Dad so many times, that they decided to adopt too! But they wanted two,not one! I also called my neighbor and told her about the orphan foals and she decided to adopt two too! Hey wait, how come I'm the only one getting 1??...LOL I figured I would just keep my foal down at my Mom's with her foals for companionship until she was weaned....Wrong! I remember the day Jeannie called and said all our foals were there and we could come and pick them up! I was so excited I could not sleep, or eat! We ended up leaving the following day for Kentucky, because I couldn't go through too many more nights like that first one!..LOL Me and my husband Steve drove my truck and horse trailer and my parents followed in their truck, they couldn't wait to see their foals either,so they came too! I didn't even know what my foal looked like they had just got her in! I couldn't of been more happier with her if I would of picked her out myself.....she was a 2 week old angel! We brought 5 foals back with us that time, mine, mom's and 2 for my neighbor! What a FUN trip that was stopping at truck stops and going into the bathrooms to get warm water for their milk, we had so many people come up to the trailer adoring our babies! Well after having my Cassidy at Mom's for a couple of weeks and practically living at their house so I could be with Cassidy,I decided I needed another foal,so I could have my babies at my house! I had never even been around a draft horse before but I thought how neat would it be to have a big old baby out in my pasture,so this time I put I wanted a draft foal. In my excitement of waiting,I think I made my folks excited again too. They decided they would save a draft foal also!<g> Again, here I was waiting for Jeannie's phone call! Then it came, and again I was off the next day! This time she had the most beautiful Percheron cross foal waiting for me,and boy was she BIG! Me and my husband just went this time, and we brought home Shawnee and my folks Belgian cross foal Dusty. You should of seen the smile on my face the first day I had both my foals under MY barn roof! I so enjoyed the feedings, going out to the barn every 4 hours to see my foals, and to give lots of love and hugs. I don't think I have done too many things in my life that have gave me greater satisfaction and feeling like I have really accomplished something important! Now my two foals are 2 years old boy time flies so fast when your having fun! They are magnificent animals and the bond I have with those two is unexplainable! I'm so lucky to have these two horses! I thank my lucky stars all the time for that one click on that Casey Creek Horse Rescue's site...:-) And I'm so thankful for Jeannie and Ken to make this all possible for the foals and all us adopters! Thank you! |
