| Hi, my name is Karen. I adopted 2 wonderful orphans from CCHRA, Inc. in 2001. Here is a brief description of both and a little story of how much they grew. First, there's Dixie. She is a bay Saddlebred/Thoroughbred-x filly. I have had her since she was 9 days old. She had a problem with drinking her milk, but had no problem eating feed. So I added moistened Mare's Match milk replacer pellets to Beginnings 16 feed. Now, she is 10 1/2 months old and about 13.2 hands. Next, there's "Hollywood" Cowboy. He is a sorrell Quarter Horse colt. I had him since he was 5 1/2 wks old. Hollywood, on the other hand, had no problem with drinking his milk. He'd take all he could get. Eventually, he wanted what his sister, Dixie, was getting. We put him on pellets along with her. He is now 9 months old and about 13-13.5 hands. They both attended their first annual orphan foal show in Carrollton, KY. Dixie won 2nd in the obstacle course & an achievment award for just being there in good health. Hollywood won 2nd in costume contest (dressed as a big horse with my 3 yr. old son riding on his bare back), 3rd in obedience, & an achievment, as well. |
