| Cookie had a little bit of a rough start on things, besides the fact that she was an orphan foal. From what we know, her first adopter abandoned her and another Casey Creek baby at the stables where they were being boarded. When the plea went out from Jeannie for someone to help in the area, I answered but things were being handled by someone else. We still had a chance to adopt one of the foals if we wanted, I was currently waiting on a PMU foal and was a little nervous about having two little ones at once. We decided it was best not to at the time. It really bothered me.Then out of the blue, a few months later......keeping things short, I discovered Cookie needed us once more. I wasted no time trying to sweet talk hubby in going to get her. He agreed except we were in a little bit of a money tight, trying to make two house payments while we sold our house. Jeannie and 'the crew' got busy trying to raise money and generously offered half the selling price if we adopted her. We agreed and I promised to return the money ASAP, because I wanted this 'foal fund' to be available for other situations like Cookies that might come along. Now the 'foal fund' has been named after this sweet little girl of ours...' The Cookie Jar'. :-) The first time we met Cookie, it was an instant true love between her and my husband, who had been looking for a trail riding buddy but wanted a grey QH gelding of riding age already, LOL. Cookie nuzzled and nibbled her way into his heart within minutes and there she stays. I believe she will always be there without a doubt. We had to go back for her the following weekend. Leaving her there was so hard on him. I had to laugh and poke some fun since he did the same when I wanted to spend the night in the barn with my PMU foal the first night. He told absolutely everyone about his 'beautiful girl' he was picking up the next weekend...he was so excited! Cookie was almost a year old when she joined our family. She is a bay, TWH/Belgian cross. Now at 16 months old, she is 14.2 hands and 744 lbs. She is the silliest girl. There is never a dull moment with her around.....always into something. For those of you who know goats...well, Cookie is like an overgrown goat. :-) She fit right in with the other two horses within a few days and all is well with the little herd. Cookie will do anything you ask of her. She leads, ties(even though she tries eating the lead rope while standing), grooms easily, etc....Cookie will make a wonderful trail riding buddy for my husband. She is absolutely spook proof so far. We can put a blanket and saddle on her with no problem...I think she's going to be one of those horses you hear of that you just one day put a saddle on and go without a fuss. So despite her shaky start, Cookie has a forever home with our family. There is no doubt that she was meant to be with us and it was a pure blessing that we were given another chance to bring her HOME! Angela |
