Hello! My name is Melissa, I adopted my orphan foal from Casey Creek in February 2000. He is a purebred Belgian, orphaned at only a couple weeks old. When he unloaded off the trailer I fell in love! He was so big and clumsy, just adorable! My Grandpa said I should name him Baciagaloop, after an Italian song about a big clumsy horse :) We call him Galoop for short. He instantly became best buds with my 5 month old mini, Hercules. And my aged QH mare, Dolly, took over as nanny. Galoop and Herky would play in their paddock for hours, and shared a stall at nite. They were inseperable. Dolly treated him as if he was her own, she taught him respect and even let him try to nurse. Galoop just celebrated his 3rd brithday at the end of January. He is very big, at 17+ hands, about 1300+ lbs. We affectionately call him my 'belgisorus'. I have started ground driving him and riding him under saddle a little. He is very easy going and also very lazy :), except at feeding time, of course. Galoop really is a good boy, and his personality is a little different than my other horses. He is much more personable, always the first one at the gate, comes up to me when called, and has a personality that will keep you laughing forever. Raising an orphan foal was a wonderful experience. I hope I'll be able to do it again someday. |
