Synopsis:

Zeus is about the story of Kira, who is a Saramander Lemora, someone who has a sign imprinted on his palm, and one who has mystical powers. He's also some kind of freak who can be used to take over the world (and stuff). He gets hunted down again and again, and people seem to really want to kill him. Then he meets his long lost brother, and chaos ensues (because his brother, like everyone, is a little wacko-ed in the head).

Review:

The first thing that comes to mind when you come across this word: Saramander - ... What? Sa.. ra...mander? Salamander? Lizard? Boy? Sarawha? Translations have been quite vague, so the original words that Higuri You-sensei has coined has been lost on me.

I'm giving this manga three stars, as compared to Alleluja des Anges, another work of Higuri You-sensei's. Ordinarily, this manga would be deserving of a two star rating, but I'm adding one extra for its originality. You know, the sun and the hermaphrodite joining thing. And also the Saramander thingamajigs, the Lemora thingies. That's one extra star for confusing me.

And the supposed seme, Kira's brother Sui, is really scary. At first he seemed like 'woo, I'm the tall and good-looking seme and I'm here to sweep the uke off his feet' type, but then he turned out to be pretty evil, having several agendas of his own. And I'm not a big fan of incest, which I realized it was after Sui showed his 'woo, I want to dominate the world. And I'd probably have to do that by bonking my brother'.

One thing in favour of this manga is the way Yuika, Kira best friend besides Inaba, is portrayed. Yuika is shown from many different sides, and her character depth is thoroughly explored - even though she isn't the main character's romantic interest. Yuika is moderately lovable.

At the end it gets down to a tie between Zeus and Alleluja des Anges. Both have almost the same concepts, both are quite similar, both have the same bishounens (just different names) - just pick either one. I would recommend getting something else istead.

Rating: Somewhat recommended
