El Hazard: The Alternative World

When youve seen one too many anime, you start to get this feeling that there way too many anime, and there are way too many weak anime series. This is not the first time youve seen an anime, and it wont be the last either. So, why bother watching really bad anime when there are so many better ones out there? The first time you watch this anime you know this is not going to be your cup of tea. The whole problem with this particular series is not because it sucks, its just because there is nothing special about this. El Hazard: The Alternative World is nothing you havent seen before.

Just by looking at the title you know this is a wannabe extreme fantasy anime. Unfortunately it falls short. Theres nothing remotely impressive in the series. The graphics are so-so, the plot moderate, the characters average, the music feels bland, and therefore, we can summarize this anime as totally uninteresting. Theres no reason for you, a sane and logical anime fan, to watch such mind numbing entertainment. Wait, we cant call this entertainment. Its rather like a piece of un-usually un-interesting group of elements pieced together by un-professionals.

Lets take a look at the plot. El Hazard is a world where a boy (No prizes for guessing his age, though) from a fantasy world falls into an alternative world. Hmm, okay. Dont know what that means, but be sure its nothing youve havent heard before. This boy meets a King of a country with a fantasy name that makes you want to roll your eyes. Hmm. Heard that before, too. The boy goes on a mission to find his way back to his own world, with the help of GIRLS who can summon magic. Oh, someone please shoot me. The plot is so clichd you could just dole out a spoonful of honey on it and call it flat as a pancake even before youve gotten past the second episode.

That didnt make sense, did it? Well, the same goes for El-Hazard: The Alternative World.

However, even if the plot is uninspired, other elements may improve the anime on the whole. Unfortunately, this cannot be applied to El Hazard. For instance, the characters are just not interesting. They look almost the same, and they wear odd clothes, and they have magic. This has been out in every major anime, so theres nothing impressive about the characters either. They are just flesh colored figures parading across your television screen with really bland voices and acting.

The world of El-Hazard is incredibly underdeveloped. If you want to stay awake while watching this you might need a few shots of stimulants. After all, its all so boring. Its hardly possible to get excited. The characters, some slightly more irritating than the rest, can only get the most extreme viewer to scowl and blink with annoyance, and that is really bad. And yes, theres the element of music. Wait. I never heard any music. Theres no music to be heard, folks. And even if you do pay attention to it youll probably fall down screaming to be saved before five minutes are up. This anime is officially too uninteresting to be even proclaimed poor on my personal ratings.

However, if you want an anime that can put you to sleep, this is the EXACT anime for you. Unless this is your first anime ever, there is no way youd find it even half-amusing.

Rating: Kiss Arse
