Finger Puppets made from Gloves

Materials

  • Gloves [inexpensive garden gloves work well]
  • 1" pop-poms
  • Felt or fun foam
  • Wiggle eyes (optional)
  • Yarn, feathers, tiny pom-poms, etc.
  • Scissors
  • Glue [hot glue works best to glue heads to glove fingers * ]

    Single Puppet

    1. Cut the finger from the glove. Turn under a narrow hem at the cut edge and sew or glue in place. OR Cut a piece of felt or fun foam 1/2" wide and long enough to fit loosely around your finger. Glue the felt piece to cover the raw edge of the puppet.
    2. Make face by gluing wiggle eyes and/or felt pieces to 1" pom-pom. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly.

    3. Glue the head to the tip of the finger.

  • Storytelling Gloves

Using the same materials and methods listed above, make a story-telling glove using each finger of the glove as a seperate puppet.

    Suggested story gloves:

    Five Little Speckled Frogs

Make frogs using green pom-poms for the head and 1/4" pom-poms for the eyes. Glue Wiggle eyes to the fronts of the small pom-poms.

    Goldilocks and the 3 Bears

Make girl with yellow yarn hair. Make bears by gluing felt ears and muzzles to brown pom-poms. Make the porridge bowl by cutting a 1 1/2" circle of felt or foam in half and gluing it to the pinkie finger.

    B-I-N-G-O

Make dog heads using 1" pom-poms for head and 1/4" pom-poms for muzzle. Glue wiggle eyes and black felt nose in place. Make ears from black felt. Mark each finger with a 1" letter to spell BINGO.

[ * If you are making a number of finger puppets, cut several 4" sections from a piece of 1" dowel or an old broomstick. Place the dowel pieces inside the glove fingers and then stick them into a piece of foam or clay to hold the fingers upright while gluing. This is easier and safer than trying to hold the glove fingers while using hot glue.]
