| Typical for a low budget movie, every actor in the film worked for scale, receiving a one-time flat rate for his or her performance. A year later, before the filmed opened in theatres, George Lucas and co-producer Gary Kurtz decided that if there were going to be any profits from the movie that they would be shared with the lead actors. Contracts were drawn up specifying that each actor would receive one tenth of a point of the film�s gross. |
| "It was a totally and completely uncommon act," says Ron Howard. "I don't know if anyone's ever done anything quite like that. I guess he [George Lucas] had 12 or 13 points, and he took one of them and split it among the 10 key cast members. It ended up being over $50,000 [for each of us]." |
