On Location
                                       Concord (Contra Costa County):
On August 3, after filming at KRE, the cast and crew headed to Buchanan Field in Concord to film the final scene where Curt boards the DC-7 that carries him out into the big beautiful world. Because the plane got a flat tire, a second-unit returned the following day to film the take-off.  Incidentally, as the plane takes off in the final scene, a Drive-in Movie screen can be seen in the distance. This was the original screen at the Solano Drive-in at 1611 Solano Way.  The second-unit crew returned once more on Monday, August 7, to capture an aerial shot of the white T-bird driving away from the airport. To fly close enough to the ground to get a clear shot, a small Cessna was used instead of the DC-7.  This completed all the filming for the movie.
Lucas (far right) and crew gathered around the white Impala in the Mels parking lot as they prepare for "Action!"
The address of 140 S. Van Ness near Mission, where Mels drive-in once proudly stood, is now the location of  high-rise apartment buildings.
