Guide Section Information

The Guide Section is part of the Guide Association. It caters for girls aged 10 to 15 1/2 although Guides can move up to Rangers any time after their 14th Birthdays. Guides make a promise and keep the Guide Law. We wear a uniform too. Each Unit creates it's own Unit Guidelines which all members sign annually. At the end of our meetings we form a horseshoe and sing Taps, the Guide and Scout closing song.

Guides can work towards badges and Go for it!'s. There are also Annual Challenge Badges (formerly Trefoils) and the Baden Powell Ultimate Guide Challenge (formerly the Baden Powell Trefoil).

The Guide Promise:

I promise that I will do my best;
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people
and to keep the Guide Law
The Guide Law

1. A Guide is honest, reliable and can be trusted.
2. A Guide is helpful and uses her time and abilities wisely.
3. A Guide faces challenge and learns from her experiences.
4. A Guide is a good friend and sister to all other Guides.
5. A Guide is polite and considerate.
6. A Guide respects all living things and takes care of the world around her.

Uniform

We wear a sash to display our badges on, we have uniform tops and we wear any dark bottoms we like! Now There is a Gillet available instead of a sash but we dont have any clip art for it yet!

Some units wear neckers.

Taps

Day is done,
Gone the Sun,
From the seas, from the hills, from the sky.
All is well,
Safely rest,
God is nigh.

Or Daylight taps:

Thanks and praise,
For our days,
'Neath the sun, 'neath the stars, 'neath the skies.
As we go,
This we know,
God is nigh.

At camp we sometimes sing Canadian Taps: (it goes to the tune of "O, Christmas Tree" and originates with the Canadian Mounties)

Softly at the close of day,
As the campfire fades away,
Silently each Guide should ask,
Have I done my daily task?
Have I kept my honour bright?
Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
Have I done and have I dared,
Everything to Be Prepared?

Annual Challenge Badges

The challenge badges each take one year to complete. There are challenges that must be completed within the year at the Guide's own level. Each year a guide recieves a different colour badge.
Some of the challenges are :
Be a reliable and active member of your patrol.
Complete 2 Go for it!'s with your patrol
Take part in 2 activities outside the unit meeting place
Guides have to keep their own records in their G Files.

Baden Powell Ultimate Challenge

This is the Ultimate Challenge for a Guide. To begin working on this Challenge she must be at least 12 years old and hold at least 2 Annual Challenge Badges. The Challenge includes a compulsory residential, away from her unit, organised at County or Region level.

Go for it!

Go for it's! are themed activity packs, for use in Patrols, produced by the Guide Association. To complete a Go for it! a Patrol must plan and carry out 4 or 5 patrol times using activities from the pack or similar themed activites they have thought of themselves. When a Patrol has completed a Go for it! they each receive a Go for it! card, which fits in their G-File. A Guide has to complete 2 Go for it!'s for each Annual Challenge Badge. The Go for it's currently available are Teamwork, Peace, Healthy Eating, Fitness, Parties, I will Survive and Flights of Fancy.
