WHAT IS PSYCHOHISTORY?
Psychohistory weds psychology and history: It is the "Why?" of history, psychohistory is defined as, "the science of historical motivation" explored and understood through the same tools and techniques used in modern psychoanalysis applied to the interactions of groups - nations, political parties, gangs or tribes. More formally, it is the systematic application of the findings and methods of the science of psychology to help explain individual and group behavior, past and present.

The three areas of Psychohistorical study are; History of Childhood, Psychobiography, Group Psychohistory. The 'tools' include but are not limited to use of Freudian analysis - family systems theory - the study of group process - the understanding of neuro-biological brain function (neurotransmitters hormones et, al.) - fetal development - and trauma model theory. History is examined not only through the published record of events - but from diaries, photos, cartoons, biographies and child rearing techniques of the time.

Or put another way - Simply "replace the word therapist for historian and client for history" - this then is what psychohistory is. Interpretations with deep empathy and self knowledge - of historical events. As individual motivations are founded in the prenatal, perinatal and early child development so we find the basis of ALL history lies in; how well the primary care givers treated the children in each period of that history.
