NSW Schoolboys

Mr J Barakat, St Pat's First XV coach, is the NSW Schoolboys coach this year. Of course, the NSW Schools side will play it's interstate counterparts in order to choose the Australian Schoolboys.

All CHS, Country, ISA, CAS and GPS representative matches will be viewed by the New South Wales Rugby Union (NSWRU) selectors. Two NSW schools teams will be announced on September 6 and will play in the ARFSU Championships which will be held in Perth between Sep 14-21.

SMH
The success of the Independent Schools Association and Combined High Schools rugby teams this winter is reflected in the choice of players in New South Wales’ 22-member squad for the national carnival starting in Perth next Monday.
ISA’s historic first defeat of CHS, 37-17, had much bearing on the choice of the NSW Schools’ two squads with CHS in turn inflicting defeats on Combined Associated Schools, 38-24 and Greater Public Schools, 31-25. Unfortunately, clever five eighth Tim Donnelly (Marist Brothers, Eastwood), so important in ISA’s defeat of CHS, sustained a broken collar bone and could not be considered for Perth.
ISA players chosen include tenacious St Patrick’s (Strathfield) No 8 Matt Tooher, Chevalier’s explosive winger Marty Schliebs and prop Casey Dunning (Northolm Grammar).
Phil Abbott (Newington), Hercus and prop Will Ashton (Cranbrook) and fullback Andrew Hindmarsh (Kings), all of whom played against England Schools, missed NSW Schools Firsts selection.
