It is important to use repetition in teaching children for the sake of retention. Remember when you studied your multiplication table or was learning how to play baseball? You probably were not real proficient at it after just one time. Likewise one self-defense or martial arts class will probably not be enough.
Have your kids learn their home phone number as well as your first and last name, the police may not know where mom and dad live.
Children should be taught their address and how to dial 911 in case of an emergency. Making these things fun can keep kids from being scared or becoming paranoid.
