Meeting the Mother-in-Law

Samuel is walking hand in hand with Sereina through the village square, looking for all the world like a young married couple.

Samuel walks slowly through the village square, the fingers of his left hand twined with Sereina's right. He has a backpack slung over his right shoulder and is not wearing a coat. The top few buttons of his shirt are undone in the heat of the day, although he does not seem to be sweating. His gaze swings back and forth across the square as he walks, checking out the vendor's stalls.

Sereina hums softly to herself, free hand combing through her sun bleached hair as her gaze stops now and again on some bolts of fabric or some small figurines.

Sybil is walking through the stalls, a few packages in hand, biggest at the bottom and two smaller ones on top, you can see she has been shopping, the bells in her hair, jingle softly as she walks, the odd muttered curse can be heard escaping her mouth as she narrowly escapes bumping into someone or someone into her.

Samuel slows to a stop, his movements graceful and fluid today such that he chimes hardly at all. His eyes narrow in suspicion as he begins searching around the square, hand squeezing Sereina's more tightly.

Sereina glances away from the carved flowers and looks at Samuel. 'What is it?' she asks faintly, patting his arm.

Sybil almost loses the top package, but manages to nudge it back into place with her chin, she mutters and curses quickly under her breath, stopping a moment, then letting a soft laugh escape her lips as she sees that the shopkeeper heard her curse.

Samuel raises his right hand to shade his eyes as he looks in Sybil's direction. Letting out a soft sigh, he lowers his hand and points in her direction. In a hushed mutter he says,'If I have any luck that will be just some traveller from Arafell. If things go the way they usually do for me, it will be my mother. Shall we go see?' The last is said while turning to face Sereina.

Sereina nods and shrugs. 'Yes, let's have a look.' she looks at the carvings again before giving Samuel's hand a squeeze.

Sybil gives a quick nod and smile to the shopkeeper, and stands there taking a rest, and odd look clouds her features a moment before it is gone.

Samuel takes a deep breath, as if to steel himself, then begins to walk in Sybil's direction. His movements are smooth and flowing, producing little in the way of noise from his braids, although his hand keeps squeezing Sereina's nervously.

Sereina shuffles her feet to keep up with Samuel, hair falling over her shoulders loosely. Her free hand goes to raise her skirt to keep her from tripping over it.

Sybil glances around, gaze catching the couple walking towards her, her features are calm as she watches them both approach, still balancing the packages oddly.

Samuel slows to a stop in front of Sybil and gives her a slight bow, his bells finally letting out a soft jingle. He smiles warmly at her and says,'I never expected to see you here, mother. You remember my wife, Sereina?' He turns and flashes the young woman an adoring smile before turning back to his mother,'Need some help with those packages?'

Sereina smiles at Sybil and curtseys. 'Good day, Mistress Quinlen,' she says softly.

Sybil smiles at the pair of you 'Yes a hand would be appreciated Sam' she balances the packages and says 'Please call me Sybil, none of this mistress stuff child....' she pauses a moment holding out the packages so Samuel can reach them still balancing them "light illiminate the both of you '.

Sereina reaches up to take one of the packages that was about to fall and holds it gently, skirt swishing with the movements. 'I shall call you Sybil then, if that's what you want.' she smiles shyly.

Sybil nods, she studies Sereina a moment then turns to Samuel 'This isn't for me Sam, this is for the others, i decided i would buy them each a nice shirt' she smiles slightly then says 'One cant have badly dressed gaurds'

Sybil adds quickly with a grin 'of course the biggest package is mine'

Samuel flashes Sereina a quick smile and mouths,'Thanks,' as she takes the package. At Sybil's comment, he frowns slightly and glances quickly around. As his gaze settles upon his mother again, he asks,'It is a bit unusual for your guards to allow you off by yourself, isn't it?'

Sereina smiles up at Samuel and wrinkles her brow in curiousity. Her face then lights up and she holds in a giggle.

Sybil laughs a little and says 'well one is still in caemlyn, and this is a small village, no need for them to scare everybody, you would be glad to hear that your father is here, and khorne...' her hands being free she uses her left hand to pull the hair away from her face, and says 'They prefer not drawing attention to themselves"

Samuel nods slowly and licks his lips nervously before saying,'You are staying nearby? Somewhere that we could sit and chat for a while?' He shifts the packages to rest on his right hip and free up his left hand which reaches for Sereina's right as if by its own accord. He shuffles his feet as he adds,'We have so much to catch up on.'

Sereina moves the package to her left hand and holds Samuel's tightly, trying to comfort him.

Sybil looks from Samuel to his wife then back to her son again, she nods and says 'yes we do have a lot to catch up on' she pauses a moment, glancing around the area 'I have a little house i am living in here, while Koltur finishes his bussiness in caemlyn'

Samuel flashes his mother another quick smile and squeezes Sereina's hand again. 'If you'll lead the way, then? This is the first time I have ever been in this village.'

Sereina listens to their conversation, noting the names that Sybil says and shifting from one foot to the other. She blushes whenever the older woman looks at her.

Sybil nods, she starts to walk at a slowish pace, through the market and down a nice alleyway full of large leafy trees, it being clean, and having nice clean paving stones.

Samuel follows dutifully behind, carrying the packages and saying nothing. Occasionally he shoots Sereina a quick smile and squeezes her hand before looking back ahead to his mother.

Sereina rests her cheek against Samuel's shoulder as they walk, glancing around the alleyway with interest.

Sybil glances over her should at the pair, then continues to walk through a maze off alleys untill she comes apon a nice house, with a clean and cared for garden, you can tell by the area that this part of the village is not for the poor.

Samuel cocks his head to the side and eyes the house critically for a long moment. Absently, he says,'Not quite the same as the manor in Arafell, but nice all the same.' He turns his gaze on Sybil and asks,'This is where you are staying?'

Sereina looks at the house, obviously admiring the garden there.

Sybil nods , she smiles as she takes a chain off her neck, you can see that there is a key attached on the end of it, she opens the gate and says with a soft sigh, as she walks up to the house 'Yes, it is not quite the same as home, though i do like it here, it is quiet, gives me time to prepare....' trailing off she walks up 4 stairs to the main door and unlocks it.

Samuel arches an eyebrow at Sybil then motions for Sereina to follow behind her, releasing her hand and taking the packages in both again. He asks,'Prepare for what?'

Sereina follows behind the other woman, holding her skirts with one hand like always, listening quietly to their conversation.

Sybil pushes the door open, and steps in, she says glancing over her shoulder and almost tripping over a sheathed sword 'same thing you are..........Oh blood and Ashes!' she stumbles but doesnt fall and says under her breath 'Men!' she leans over to pick up the sword and steps in further to the house, to the main lounge room, which is cozy with a 2 couches and a small antiquie wooden table in the centre, on a dull grey rug.

Samuel bites his lip to keep from laughing out loud. He flashes Sereina a mischievous grin and waits for her to enter the house, waiting to enter last.

Sereina hops up the steps and peeks into the house before following, her mother in law inside, chuckling and shaking her head at Samuel. She shook her finger at him, but kept the words to herself.

Sybil walks in placing the sword in a corner, then waiting near the door 'Please sit down, would either of you like something to drink?'

Samuel sets the packages down in the corner near the sword, then slips off his backpack and sets it beside the packages. He gives his mother a quick shake of his head and say softly,'I wouldn't. Sereina might, though.' This said, he turns a questioning look on his wife.

Sereina puts the package that she was holding upon the ones that Samuel put down. 'Umm...if you have some punch or juice, that would be fine,' she says, sitting down on one of the couches.

Sybil nods, closing the door behind the couple, she says 'I will be right back, Looks like your lucky Sam, Khorne and Cador seem to be out, probably causing some bar brawl somewhere....' she chuckles then walks off in the direction of the kitchen, leaving you both alone a moment

Samuel unbelts his sword and leans it against the wall next to the other one. Humming nervously to himself he moves across the room to sit on the couch next to Sereina, his bells jingling softly from the heavy way he plops down on the couch. He lets out a soft sigh and reaches to take her hand in both of his.

Sereina frowns at Samuel. 'Lucky?' she asks, not expecting an answer. She leans back and crosses her legs, smoothing her skirt over her thighs.

Sybil returns with a tray with one glass of what looks like to be juice, she flashes a quick friendly smile at the both of you before asking 'So samuel where did you meet your wife?' she holds the tray out to Sereina.

Samuel shifts nervously and opens his mouth to answer, then closes it as Sybil re-enters the room. He puts on his best shy smile and says to his mother,'We met in Caemlyn.. married the same day we met. But I hear that happens a lot when the Lord Dragon is in town.' He manages to look slightly embarrassed and then leans in to whisper to Sereina,'Yes, lucky. I don't think Khorne likes me very much.'

Sereina blushes faintly and nods. 'It was rather a whirlwind marriage. There were many others there getting married as well.' she nods at Samuel and pats his leg. Sereina raises her hand to pick up the glass. 'Thank you,'

Sybil nods, a faint smile plays on her lips a moment as she places the tray on the coffee tabel and takes a seat opposite you both 'Yes so i have heard things like that have been happening lately' she pauses as if trying to work out how to say something, and decides against it for now 'Well Sam tell me what you have been up too lately, and Sereina you are more than welcome to offer information about yourself'

Samuel shrugs his shoulders and squeezes Sereina's hand in his,'Well, I have been pretty busy. Working on the farm, learning a trade, getting used to married life... Preparing.' He fixes Sybil with a significant look as he says these things.

Sereina blinks and sips at the juice. 'Well, um...all I do right now is tend to the cabin and help the other wives with chores. Before I was married I lived with my mother on a farm.' she looks over at Samuel again.

Sybil nods, she watches the both of you a moment, nodding at Sam's words understanding the meaning of it she says softly in a calm voice 'Sam i am going to tell you this for your own good, are you aware your wife can channel, speaking of trades, this is a new one she must learn how to control' she watches the both of you, blue eyes regarding you both closely.

Samuel flashes Sereina a quick, nervous look then turns back to Sybil. With a slow nod he says,'Yes, mother. That is really what I wanted to talk to you about.' He gives his wife's hand a firm squeeze and continues,'I know she can channel, but I do not know if she is past the wilder sickness or if she has yet to face that.. I was wondering you would be able to help?' There is a hopeful tone to his question.

Sereina turns pale at Sybil's words, hand trembling in her lap. 'I uh...would be extremely grateful and in your debt, of course.'

Sybil nods, leaning back in her chair, her gaze wanders between the two of you, she asks Sereina 'Well Sereina have you been really ill recently, or have strange things been happening around you that you have noticed, they would be slight and perhaps hard to notice things?'

Samuel looks very nervous at that question and quickly interjects,'That is something else, mother. It would be very dangerous for both of us if she were to channel where we live.'

Sereina shakes her head. 'There have been only two times that I know that I have channeled, and gotten sick. Once when I was angry and another time when I was being attacked. I had gotten sick, but it went away rather quickly.' she looks between Samuel and Sybil. 'I'm not able to channel in public, so I suppose that is a good thing..'

Sybil nods, running a hand through her hair she says to Sereina 'Well you do need to learn how to control it, or you may die from it...' pausing a moment she says "and i know it is dangerous for her to channel where you live samuel....' she trails off, a soft hum comming from her has she drifts off into thought.

Samuel sighs softly and turns loose of Sereina's hand so that he can slip his arm around her shoulders. He bites his bottom lip in thought for a moment, then says,'How much time would you need with her if you agreed the help her? Because, I'm not sure how often I can bring her here. I do not think we are very far away, but I am not certain you want her travelling here by horse or foot from the farm, either...' His voice trails off as he gives a slight shrug.

Sereina rests her hand on Samuel's knee, looking at Sybil hopefully. She takes a deep drink of her juice to keep her babbling.

Sybil snaps out of her thought 'I will teach her for you son, though it goes against the tower, both of them , i will do it to save your hides' she smiles at Sererina, trying to make her feel at ease with the situation 'Well couldnt she be let away from the farm for work, she could be helping an old lady clean her house twice a week.....' she looks at samuel, her blue eyes locking on to him a moment 'And perhaps now you know where i am you will come visit your dear old mother some more....'

Samuel nods slowly and says,'Yes, twice a week should be easy enough to manage. More If I think I can visit more without endangering you.'

Sereina stands up and curtsies, 'Thank you very much for doing this.' she says softly, sitting down again and hugging Samuel with one arm.

Sybil smiles, she says softy 'It is not a problem, though i do expect some help with the chores' the last is said with laughter to her tone, quickly Sybil glances over her shoulder at the door, then sighs 'Looks like the boys have gotten themselves into trouble again'

Samuel chuckles softly and says,'I need to be getting back, anyway.' He lets out a soft sigh and adds,'Thank you, mother. It means a great deal to me.' He leans in towards Sereina and hugs her against him.

Sereina nods with a smile, 'I will be happy to help with the chores.'

Sybil smiles, she stands up and says "well it was a pleasure seeing you both again, sorry about leaving so quickly the last time.....' she sighs again and says 'Men! always finding the best times to go get themselves in trouble'

Samuel blinks at Sybil and flashes his most innocent grin at her. 'I have no idea what you mean, mother.' Then he rises to his feet and offers Sereina a hand up.

Sereina takes Samuel's hand and stands slowly, smiling at Sybil's tone of voice.

Sybil grins at the two of you then says 'Well my "guards" seem to be in some strife at this time' she smiles and continues 'well they should be alright, ' pausing to run a hand through her hair she says 'Light illimate you both, and i expect to see you both lets say in a week?'

Sereina murmurs 'The bag, dear,' before bending down to pick both that and his sword up. 'It was lovely meeting you again, Mistre- I mean, Sybil.'

Sybil smiles at the both of you and giggles at Samuel 'Still forgettful i see dear....' she grins then adds 'I will be waiting for you both then'

Samuel smiles at Sereina and takes the sword from her, quickly belting it around his waist, then taking the backpack from her and slipping it over his right shoulder. He turns to wave at his mother, then reaches for Sereina's hand again to lead her down the path.
