Jerek quietly wanders into the arena and stops partly within the dirt-packed ground. He looks around, scanning the crowd for his next opponent. His movements are casual yet a controlled strength is held in check.
Kaith strolls into the arena, whistling softly to himself. His right hand hangs casually at his side, while his left is resting on the hilt at his hip. He spots Jerek and alters his path to intersect him. He stops about four paces away and bows, right hand upon his heart, 'Light Illumine, Jerek. It has been a while.'
Jerek sees Kaith moving towards him and then smiles at the man. He makes a half bow to him, fingers of his right hand to lips then heart and murmurs softly to Kaith, "Light Illumine, friend Kaith. It has been far too long since we last had the opportunity to speak with one another. I do believe we were supposed to go drinking."
Kaith grins rogueishly,'Perhaps we can have that drink after the match. I should be thirsty by then.' He steps closer and extends his right hand towards Jerek.
Jerek winks at Kaith and chuckles gently at the sally. He murmurs to Kaith, "Well, I do believe you and I will both be quite thirsty after the match. I wish you luck in your persuits, Kaith." He then extends his own right hand to Kaith to shake Kaith's hand.
Traya sits off to one side in silence, a grey-cloaked and non-descript form resting comfortably in the stands nearby.
Kaith clasps Jerek's hand firmly then releases it. He steps back and says,'Shall we begin?' He reaches across his body with his right hand and pulls his sword from his scabbard, the well-oiled blade making only a soft scraping noise as it comes free. He plants his feet shoulder width apart. He brings his left hand over to grip the hilt behind his right, holding the hilt near his right hip, blade angled up to his left and out from his body at about a 45 degree angle. He nods slightly to Jerek and waits.
Jerek nods his head to Kaith after releasing the man's hand. He also steps back and then reaches over his head with his left hand to draw a plain looking but well made katana from it's sheath with a soft snitting sound. He widens his stance slightly and then raises himself up onto the balls of his feet, bending his knees slight with the same movement. He brings his left hand down as soon as he moves to hold it hovering at waist height, point angled up to a 35 degree angle. He then places his right hand onto the hilt, joining his left and watches Kaith carefully.
Kaith nods again, all expression draining from his face. He steps his right foot forward, thrusting out with his sword towards the left side of Jerek's abdomen. At the last instance he stamps his foot and snaps his wrists, slashing down at the outside of Jerek's left knee.
Jerek merely eyes Kaith and his face takes on the the expression of stone. He hops backwards, still holding his sword out in front of him intending on parrying Kaith's blade but sees Kaith's blade fick down to strike at his left knee. Jerek swings his own blade down to his left knee to meet Kaith's strike with a ringing of steel upon steel. At the moment of impact, Jerek suddenly slices his blade up trying to scrape it along Kaith's blade in an attempt to cut Kaith's left arm in a long slide.
Kaith twists his wrists a quarter turn clockwise and pushes his blade to his left and up, deflecting the slash with more sound of metal scraping on metal. When his blade reaches waist level he twists his wrists back and thrusts forward, aiming at the middle of Jerek's stomach.
Jerek smoothly side-steps to his left and turns his boddy slightly on the balls of his feet so that his left shoulder is out foremost. At the same instant that he turns, he makes a fast, hard two-handed strike towards Kaith's extended arms in a slash going from Jerek's left side from knee level up in an arc to his right shoulder towards Kaith.
Kaith steps his right foot back even with his left and pulls his hands in towards his chest. The slash connects with his blade, knocking it up and to his left with a sharp clang. He rotates his blade in a quick arc back to his right then slashes down and to his left, angling in an attempt to slash from Jerek's left shoulder to his left hip.
Jerek twists his forearms and wrists hard and uses the momentum of the rebound off of Kaith's blade to slash his sword into a semi-circle, like drawing the crescent of the moon with the tip of his blade going from his right to his left and then down in an angled slashing motion angled 25 degrees to his left to meet Kaith's blade with a clang. He attempts to push Kaith's sword out wide to Jerek's left and then tries to make a return slash to Kaith's right side.
Kaith's blade goes wide to his right from the force of the parry. He quickly backpedals to avoid the slash which whistles past him with less than two inches to spare. He slashes back hard to his left, aiming to knock Jerek's blade further to his left then steps forward to thrust hard at Jerek's chest.
Jerek steps back upon seeing the oncoming backswing from Kaith and lets his own blade continue on in it's downward swing. He then pulls his blade back up in a reverse arc, pulling his blade from somewhere near his left ankle up diagonally from left to right with his elbows bent. The hilt of his katana leads and the point remains down but angled to his left about 20 degrees. He blocks Kaith's strike towards his chest and holds his sword against Kaith's for a split second. Suddenly, he attempts to hook the point of his sword onto Kaith's sword hilt by trying to slide his blade up in a rising arc along Kaith's blade, drawing the hilt back towards his body and arcing the tip of his blade over Kaith's in a twining motion. He then wrenches his arms to his right, trying to disarm Kaith.
Kaith angles his blade up slightly and pulls the hilt back down towards his abdomen to foil the bind attempt. He allows the wrench to Jerek's right to angle his blade in that direction then quickly lowers the point to slip under his opponent's blade then thrusts up sharply, angling to his right in an attempt to impale Jerek's left shoulder.
Jerek attempts to turn his body but gets hit off centered of his left shoulder. The tip of Kaith's sword sinks into his shoulder and then slides it's way out to the left upon the bone when it hits. Jerek growls and then whips his own blade back in a one-handed, hard, fash slash at Kaith's left side holding his katana in his right hand.
Kaith brings his left foot back and pivots 45 degrees on his right as he slashes down in a hard arc from his upper right to lower left, blade intersecting Jerek's slash with a sharp clang of metal on metal. He turns his wrists over counter-clockwise and uses the momentum from the rebound to slash back across his body to his right and up towards Jerek's abdomen. A light sheen of sweat begins to coat his face from the afternoon heat and the exercise.
Jerek steps back as his blade recoils slightly. He then draws his blade across his body, with the hilt of his sword leading and going down in an angle to his left at waist height. The katana is held diagonally squared with his body to block Kaith's slash to his abdomen. His left hand joins his right upon the hilt of the Katana with the blocking move. He then attempts to push Kaith's blade down and wide to his right side with both hands upon the hilt of his katana. He then steps in and tries to split Kaith from crotch to head in a rising swing.
Kaith twists his wrists clockwise to square his blade against Jerek's, pushing back against the attempt to push his sword out of line. He brings his left foot back, pivoting another 45 degrees on his right, his blade following Jerek's up, deflecting it to miss, passing harmlessly up his left side. As his blade reaches waist height, he twists his wrists sharply counter-clockwise and lashes back to his right in a rising slash towards Jerek's chest.
Jerek moves in concert with Kaith as he pivots 45%. He steps in closer to Kaith and brings his blade down quickly in his right hand to simply block Kaith's rising slash to his chest in front of him. At the same time, he punches out quickly with his left fist towards Kaith's chin in an uppercut.
Kaith turns his head to his right, taking the stinging blow on the cheek. He steps back, shaking his head to clear it, eyes registering no pain. He brings his point up to thrust at Jerek's chest but stops well short, suddenly slashing down hard at his opponent's blade, aiming for the point just in front of the hilt.
Jerek side steps to his left and allows to point of Kaith's sword to whistle by harmlessly. He then thrusts his own blade straight out towards Kaith's chest the same instant he side steps to his left.
Kaith leaps backwards, left foot catching on one of the light-cursed rocks that strew the sparring ground. He stumbles, going down on his right knee. He releases his hilt with his left hand and reaches out to touch the ground by his left side to keep himself from falling completely over.
Jerek moves forward with his left foot and swings his katna down towards Kaith's head with both hands in a fast strike.
Kaith raises his blade over his head, angling to the left over his body. He quickly brings his left up to brace the back of the blade about a quarter of the way from the tip as he pushes with his right foot, surging back to his feet. He brings his hilt quickly down to his right hip, left hand moving to rejoin the right as he twists his hips clockwise. He thrusts quickly for Jerek's abdomen as he twists his hips sharply back widdershins, then reverses direction again as he pulls the blade back out.
Jerek moves to keep Kaith facing him. He swings his blade from his left side to right upwards and blocks Kaith's blade. He spins on the balls of his feet to also reverse directions, keeping with Kaith to face him again. He then makes a hard slash going from Kaith's right shoulder to opposite hip and steps back. He then nods to the man, holding his sword at the ready and queietly says, "I believe this will be enough. Perhaps we can meet for a drink but I have to go now."
Kaith steps back out of range of the last slash and lowers his blade. He nods slowly, his cheek beginning to turn purple from the punch that landed there earlier. He quickly sheathes his blade and turns to walk slowly from the field.
