A Bath Wouldn't Hurt

Samuel has taken Sereina to the Golden Bowl and bought her a room for the night, with a bath. The scene opens with him leaving her to the bath while going off to procure her some new clothing.

Samuel looks up finally and says,'I'll go see about getting you some clothes now. I'll knock loudly when I come back.' He turns and moves to the door, then pauses with his hand on the knob to look back and say,'Please do not try to runaway.'

Sereina glares at Samuel but says nothing, contenting herself with digging her nails into her palms. 'Yes, husband.' she walks into the bathroom and shuts the door behind him, undressing and stepping into the water, mumbling and cursing silently.

Time passes

Sereina climbs out of the water, drying her off with one of the large towels placed on a stool next to the tub. She glances up at the knock, still unused to being able to feel another. 'Come in,' she says, wrapping the towel around her modestly.

The door opens and Samuel enters with a small bundle of clothes draped over his arms. He closes the door behind him with his foot and mutters irritably,'This time of night I did not have a lot of selection. Innkeeper sold me some of his daughter's clothes, though.' He glances up at you briefly, then averts his eyes and says,'I hope they fit. We can get you better in the morning, I suppose.' He places the bundle on the bed, then opens the door again and bends down to pick up a cloth-covered tray.

Sereina frowns, her face blushing a bright red. 'Go ahead and wait on the rest. Just get- I mean, please leave the room.' she sits down on the stool that the towel was on, tapping one foot nervously.

Samuel keeps muttering, but low enough for the words to be indecipherable. He places the tray on the table next to the bed, then turns back to the door. Without a backward glance as he steps outside, he says,'I would like some of that food, too.' Then he shuts the door behind him.

Sereina makes a face and in a mocking tone repeats his last words. 'I would like some of that food, too. Gah!' She steps out of the bathroom, letting the towel fall upon the wet floor and she goes to the bedroom, holding the dress up. She mutters to herself, seeing that the farmer's daughter was a bit more than well fed but puts the dress on anyway since it was better than the rags that she had. She slips the shoes on her feet, feeling them threaten to slide off whenever she tries to walk and then sits on the bed, picking up the tray and sitting it next to her. She hungrilly digs into the food, only barely remembering what he had said, leaving just enough for a small snack for him.

Samuel can be heard pacing impatiently outside the door, alternating waves of irritation and nervousness coming through the bond. After several minutes he taps on the door.

Sereina smirks and opens the door, bowing deeply to him. 'I think we might need to go shopping tomorrow, but I'll pick my own clothes, thank you very much.' her mouth twitches in a sort of sarcastic amusement.

Samuel nods absently as he closes the door behind him. He looks her up and down briefly, then his gaze moves as if dragged to the mostly empty tray. His expression does not change, but she can feel the disappointment through the bond as he says,'I should have gotten more food, I suppose.' As he moves towards the tray, he adds,'We'll go shopping in the morning as soon as I am able, miss. I have to attend morning directives, then hopefully avoid being assigned anything tedious..' His words stop abruptly as he reaches the tray and begins wolfing down all that she left.

Sereina mutters beneath her breath, feeling a little bit guilty as well as a little bit satisfied at the disappointment wells in the back of her head. 'I'm sorry, it's been a few days since I've had actual food.' she mutters, kicking at the overly long skirt. 'You can just give me the money and I'll get my own clothes too, I guess. That is, if you think you can trust me. Or you can tell me I can be on my way and I'll go on with my life and you go on with yours.'

Samuel licks his fingers in a most ungracious manner, then shakes his head,'No, it is not that I do not trust you. We should shop together to help give the appearance of being married.' Suddenly his gaze narrows on you and he asks,'Did you get enough to eat? I can wake the innkeeper up again. After what I paid for those clothes, I would not at all mind rousing him from slumber again.' An odd feeling comes across the bond, almost as if he is .. stalling.

Sereina shrugs and crosses her ankles. 'It was enough for now. If you want to anger the innkeeper don't use me as an excuse.' she frowns a little more, an awkward moment falling upon the room.

Samuel goes quiet as well, for a long moment. He looks around the room, apparently more to avoid looking at you than to actually see the room. After a long moment of this, he says,'You may have the bed... I will sleep on the floor. Tonight, anyway. Not sure we can get away with that at the tower.'

Sereina breaths a sigh of relief and climbs into the bed after taking off the shoes. 'What they don't know won't hurt them, unless your superiors have a habit of coming into the room unannounced.'

Samuel shrugs and says,'It is hard to say what someone might do in the tower.' He moves to the foot of the bed and digs out a blanket from the chest there. He very pointedly avoids watching her remove her shoes as he spreads his blanket on the floor. The extent of his own undressing is to remove his swordbelt and lean the weapon in the far corner.

They both drift off into a fitful sleep.

Several hours later Sereina awakens.

Sereina opens her eyes and lays very still in the bed. She can feel him laying on the floor and feel how uncomfortably stiff it is. 'Oh Light,' she mutters, pushing herself to sit up in the bed. I was hoping this was all a dream!'

Samuel snorts softly and mutters,'I should be so lucky.' Stiffly he climbs to his feet, bells ringing at his unsteady movements. He staggers over towards the corner where his sword is and mutters sleepily,'I need to go to morning directives. If you want to meet me in the plaza, that is fine. Not sure I have enough on me for you to do much shopping, but I will get more after directives.'

Sereina shrugs and climbs out of the bed, combing her fingers through her hair. 'Whatever. Just give me enough to get some shoes at least, or perhaps a decent shift.'

Samuel picks up his swordbelt and buckles it on slowly, blinking his eyes sleepily. Once it is secured, he takes off his coinpurse and tosses it on the bed. He lets out a frustrated sigh and says,'I do not suppose you count as a commoner anymore, so you can see this. I will meet you in the plaza as soon as I am able. Please do not make me have to hunt you.' With that said, he turns and faces the open part of the room, where a slash of light appears and widens into a gateway.'

Sereina shivers uncomfortably at the sight of the gateway and picks up the coinpurse. 'Fine, I guess. I'll meet at the oval when I...er...feel you, I guess.'

Samuel says softly,'Yes, dear. I'll be there as soon as I am able.' Then he steps through the hole in the air and lets it close behind him.

Sereina sighs audibly and falls onto the bed, crying for all she's worth. 'Burn him! BURN HIM!' she pounds her fists into the mattress, crying and sobbing loudly.
