HWK-4W Hawk
Overview:

The HWK-4W is another scout class Mech which would otherwise be rather unremarkable were it not for its main weapon system. The
Hawk was designed by a small research company named Belkin Dynamics without a grant by Star League. When other scout Mechs such as the Wasp and Stinger were produced, production of the Hawk was stopped due to lack of demand. However, then Belkin Dynamics Labs invented a sonic cannon armament, they renewed production of the Hawk and refitted it with the new sonic cannon.

The sonic cannon itself is a potentially deadly device. It fires waves of intense sonic vibrations at a frequency above the range of the human ear. The weapon can cause an internal critical hit anytime it hits because of the vibrations it causes. Naturally, though, there is a flaw in it. Belkin Dynamics needed to produce the
Hawk quickly for monetary reasons, so they did not test the sonic cannon very thoroughly. The vibrational effect of the gun causes havoc on the electrical connections inside the cannon. After about one year of use, the cannon becomes unreliable. The condition is unrepairable and often gets worse through extended use. As most of the surviving Hawks have seen a lot of service in the Succession Wars, the majority of sonic cannons are unreliable. Many MechWarriors refuse to pilot the Hawk for this reason. Those that do are a certain breed, reckless, daring and often more of a bird of prey than a scout.

Some surviving sonic cannons have been modified so that they operate on a wider range of frequencies. This allows the weapon to produce a shriek audible to human ears that is the war cry of the HWK-4W
Hawk.

Few
Hawks are left in service. Most had a brief and glorious career. Of those that remain, many are outfitted with more reliable large lasers in place of the sonic cannon.
